We were lucky to catch up with MadelineKarita Fleming recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, MadelineKarita thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Have you been able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen? Was it like that from day one? If not, what were some of the major steps and milestones and do you think you could have sped up the process somehow knowing what you know now?
Moving To L.A. was the most massive thing I have ever done. I have been on television and movies , written books and had my own television shows, podcast, modeling career but for some reason I was scared of moving to moving to Hollywood and really taking a chance on myself.
If I could do it again I would be way more selfish with my energy. I think about the years I was so focused on making people who didn’t deserve my energy happy even if it made me uncomfortable. AND I Would have moved to Los Angeles even sooner

MadelineKarita, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started when I was 5 years old. I had written a play and wrote out playbill, choreographed dance numbers and even had wardrobe. BY 14 I was an award winning playwright and by 15 I was in the Ivy Leagues.
I got my discipline and drive from
pure spite 🤣 But seriously from a young I recognized that to be young , black, and gifted born into a system where I was born teenage parents in the hood. I was born on the bottom of the dogpile I knew I had to fight harder then anyone else. I had to go a different route so I did.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
1.That not everyone is going to like you, you don’t even like everyone so that’s futile.
2. INVEST IN YOURSELF not Boyfriends or Girlfriends
3. That when you get closer to success the most haters your going to have , the more doubters, I have recieved death threats, rape threats, hate from thousands of incels for my last film and it was jarring at first ans then the awards starting rolling in and that’d all there is going to be fore a while but if you put all your effort into and stick with it your Tribe will arrive.
Last but not least No.4. I learned this from a exorcism Priest. Demons cant stand it when you laugh at them. And thats basically HATERS to a T , they can’t stand it when you laugh at them. They want you to feel empty and low like they do on the inside so when you laugh at them you irritate there demons. They need you to take them seriously so they can feel like they’ve accomplished something it’s a form of control to them so they can bring you to their level. Dont give them the satisfaction laugh at them and they eventually go find a easier target. Never let them get the best of you.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I was working in Minneapolis, I had my own TV show, award winning movies, commercials, radio show and I was on billboards and was the top of the heap but I felt myself asking where do I go from here but I realized I had gone as far as I could. The universe was pushing me out of my safety zone. I woke up one day and drove to the Sundance film festival with my award winning film and didn’t stop until I saw the Ocean and the Los Angeles sign.
