We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Madeline Reagor a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Madeline thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
People don’t often see the ‘behind the scenes’ work of videographers/filmmakers. It’s one thing to press the record button on a camera. It’s another to learn how to film moments with movement and feeling which create a story of its own. When I’m filming a wedding, I’m already creating the film in my head. That’s been the biggest learning experience for me, filming with a purpose. That way when I go home and spend hours upon hours of editing, the story is just flowing from my brain to the timeline. I learned this by a lot of practice, a lot. Filming multiple weddings this past year, all with different people with different stories, has grown my experience and my passion. I also love getting inspiration from other wedding filmmaker’s around the world! Seeing their eye for film and getting more ideas in my head and coming up with my own way of executing the shot. Knowing what I know now, I was the only thing standing in my way of learning more. It’s that imposter syndrome that creeps up on you. I was comfortable with the way I was filming and scared that my work would never look like award-winning films, so I just didn’t bother. The more I was getting booked, the more I realized people love my style. How I film and how I edit. I started to really believe in myself and not feel like this imposter anymore. I’m so proud of how far I’ve come just over this past year, and I’ve really found my very own style. I’ll always have more to learn, and I’m blessed to have a community of amazing vendors who support one another and want to see each other grow.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Madeline, and I’m the owner of Made Along The Line, a wedding videography company based in Charleston, SC. The name of my business also contains my first name, which is one of the reasons the name came to my mind in the first place! I’ve been filming weddings a little over three years now. I started out filming live sporting events in college and thought I wanted to pursue film in that direction. Once I graduated college, I decided to find out what the wedding industry was like in Charleston. I was hired as the lead videographer for a local wedding videography company where I learned so much and also realized how much I loved the industry and how badly I wanted to start a business of my own. In 2021 I decided to launch Made Along The Line. I always say that hiring your wedding vendors is a very important part of the wedding planning process. I truly believe that finding a videographer that matches your vibe is what the deciding factor should be. I’ve never been, and never will be, the videographer who will shove a camera in your face; I’m very behind the scenes and capture moments without you even realizing it! I love raw, real moments and creating a film that draws the audience in, making them feel as if they were actually there. I’ve come a long way with my filming style along with my editing style. That’s what I would say I’m most proud of. My style is different, creative, and very much tailored to the beat and vibe of the music playing throughout the film. Made Along The Line films are romantic, upbeat, and authentic just like my couples!
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Charleston is one of the most popular wedding destinations in the country, with some of the most amazing, talented vendors you’ll meet! Of course my relationship with the couple is my top priority, but getting to know these vendors and being friendly and cooperative with them on wedding days are so important. Word gets around quick, and if people enjoy working with you, they’ll refer you to future clients. That’s how I’ve built a reputation within the wedding industry here. And I hope other vendors and couples can attest to that! Couples and fellow vendors can be a huge lead generator in this industry.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a wedding filmmaker is providing a life-long memory of one of the most special days of people’s life. The day I send out a film is always a little nerve wrecking. But the feeling of gratitude and happy tears that my couples share with me will never get old. They get to relive one of the most amazing days shared with their closest friends and family over and over again, and I was lucky enough to be a part of that.
