We recently connected with Madeline Javier and have shared our conversation below.
Madeline, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
My journey into photography was shaped by both formal training and real-world experience. I studied Art in school and had the opportunity to participate in a photography program in Cuba, which profoundly influenced my approach to storytelling and composition. But beyond education, photography is something you refine through practice – constantly shooting, analyzing, and evolving.
If I had to give advice to someone starting out, I’d say: immerse yourself in the work. Technical skills matter, but developing your eye – understanding composition, light, and emotion – is what sets a photographer apart. Experience builds confidence, and confidence is everything, whether you’re shooting a portrait or navigating a commercial jobs.
The biggest challenge early on was simply time. While building my portfolio, I balanced multiple jobs, which meant I had to be patient with the process. There were moments I wanted to accelerate my growth, but in hindsight, every step was necessary. The best thing any creative can do is trust that consistency and persistence will always pay off.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Madeline, a photographer based in New York with nearly a decade of experience. My work centers on fashion and interiors, blending digital and analogue formats to create imagery that feels intentional, emotive, and enduring.
In addition to working independently, I spent three years in-house at a brand, gaining a deep understanding of the full production process – from casting to shooting to post-production. I bring a thoughtful, well-rounded perspective to every project, along with a calm, grounded presence on set.
Photography, to me, is an exchange. I prioritize creating a space where people feel comfortable and seen – because when trust is present, the most honest and compelling images emerge.
I collaborate with brands and individuals who value storytelling and want to create work that feels both refined and real.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
While my goal is to create work I’m proud of, my ultimate aim is to enjoy the journey of growing as an artist. I’d love to start experimenting with mixed media and new techniques – and see where curiosity takes me.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
If there’s one thing I wish I had done earlier, it’s seeking out and nurturing relationships with mentors. There are so many incredible resources available to young artists, but having someone you trust and respect in your corner can be transformative. A mentor can offer perspective that no book or course can.
