We recently connected with Madeline Hopkins and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Madeline, thanks for joining us today. Let’s jump right into the heart of things. Outsiders often think businesses or industries have much larger profit margins than they actually do – the reason is that outsiders are often unaware of the biggest challenges to profitability in various industries – what’s the biggest challenge to profitability in your industry?
I believe that art is a very important part of society. Being creative is in our very beings whether that be painting or wearing a fun outfit or even just coming up with stories. Art is everywhere in every form. Unfortunately because of our societal goals to climb the ladder and make money, art can be lost and isn’t valued. So when the economy crashes the arts are the first to be hit. I understand that when trying to survive other things are more important like housing and food but I do think that art is apart of human instinct and in some ways a necessity to survive.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My family is full of artists and I started creating as a kid. My family heavily inspired me to pick up a paint brush and practice. I wasn’t always very subjectively good at art but the more I practiced the better I got. I eventually started doing art shows with my sister and my niece in 2014 and I have been selling my art pieces ever since. I started making content around that time as well. This time inspired by YouTubers like Zoella etc. I wanted to create video art so I started posting here and there on YouTube in 2014 and started posting on TikTok in 2020. I have lots of fun editing and creating videos it’s one of my many passions.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I personally wish I had started my art business social media earlier on. I think social media now a days is so important in the marketing of your business and I wish I would have known that sooner.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I have roughly 2,700 followers on TikTok. And 670 on YouTube. It has taken me a long time to get into the swing of posting and find my community. My biggest advice is to just keep posting keep making connections and sharing your message. A lot of people say find your niche and that is hard for someone like me who is interested in so many different things how can I pick one niche? So I didn’t. I think in the bigger picture just showing up and being consistent is more important.
