We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Madeline Curtis Long. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Madeline below.
Alright, Madeline thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Taking the jump into launching Emory James Creative stands out as one of my boldest decisions.
Starting a business feels akin to the anticipation of having children or buying a home – there’s never a “perfect” time. If I hadn’t lost my job in October 2023, Emory James Creative might still be just a dream. But setbacks became opportunities. With each client and campaign, my confidence grows. Emory James Creative is dedicated to crafting imagery that captivates, resonates, and empowers businesses in a fiercely competitive world.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Madeline, the founder of Emory James Creative, a studio committed to crafting enduring visual narratives with authenticity and warmth. Drawing from my background in photography and digital marketing, I aim to transform cherished memories, unique products, and art into captivating stories. Our name, Emory, honors my great-great-grandfather, Emory Schroeter, who operated an innovative floating studio on the Green River, capturing portraits and preserving memories from 1890 to 1920. Emory James Creative strives to deliver visually compelling content that engages and drives results in the digital landscape, believing in the power of storytelling to empower businesses and individuals, making us a trusted partner in preserving memories and fostering connections.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
We thrive on maintaining a friendly atmosphere and fostering strong connections. Many of our clients are artists themselves, so we understand the importance of aligning with them on the visual end goal to deliver quality work. We keep in touch through various channels like emails, calls, and even meet-ups over coffee. It’s all about building those genuine relationships and ensuring our clients feel valued every step of the way.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One lesson I had to unlearn was the belief that success meant following a linear path. Growing up, I was conditioned to believe that success was achieved by ticking off certain milestones in a predetermined order: college, job, promotion, etc. However, my journey with Emory James Creative taught me that success is not always a straight line.
Coming to this realization involved a series of unexpected twists and turns in my career path. From facing setbacks to taking risks, I learned that embracing the unpredictability of life can lead to unforeseen opportunities and personal growth. Unlearning the linear path mentality allowed me to embrace the journey of entrepreneurship with an open mind and a willingness to adapt to change.
