We caught up with the brilliant and insightful MadebyA a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, MadebyA thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Music is in my blood, my dad was a musician & my mother always sang growing up. Long before I came around, my parents came over to NY from Puerto Rico, ironically my mom was in a band making some new records & during this time my dad had his own group of musicians where they used to frequent several night disco’s/clubs, and it was through this means where my
parents actually met down the line.
Everything else is history.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
For me, my outlet has always been through creative expression. Since a young age I never wanted to feel bound or limited and wanted to challenge myself to come up with new ideas regardless of whatever I was doing.
For years I had gone making music around friends & constantly being asked about why I never decided to follow the same path my parents did, and I could never find the right answer; mostly because I was just too nervous to share with anybody outside my circle, but eventually I came around and decided i didn’t want to dream anymore.
MadeByA is what I go by, or people just call me “A”, and what makes my music unique is that I don’t have 1 style, my range is unlimited and I am adaptable,
The reason for this is because music encompasses a wide variety of sounds, and from these sounds that we hear everywhere, is where I find my inspiration, and so I feel that I am never bound to just one single type of sound.
Through this process a little under a year ago, I publicly shared my first single “Workin On Me”, which released on streaming platforms.
These days I’ve been writing and producing at home, where I’m looking to drop my first EP.
Be on the lookout for 2024!

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
The last few years of my life have been especially tough on not just me but also for my family.
The pinnacle of what drove my musical inspirations & where I got my love for it from; my father, was diagnosed with dementia-Alzheimer’s, and for several years I have seen the struggles of my mother, my family and have experienced the pain of seeing someone who once knew you, fading away.
He unfortunately passed way in January of this year.
Throughout this, I felt like I needed to make more of a push towards music and go for it, because I know it’s something he would have wanted me to do.
I just wanna carry his legacy on.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the reward is playing the music for people and seeing actual enjoyment or the excitement that comes from it.
don’t know if it’s a high that comes with it, or what the feeling is, but maybe it’s just the genuine joy I feel because it’s something I poured my time into.
I’m sure many creatives can relate to this feeling.
It’s also the closing of projects, completing something that looked blurry at first but at the end came together, and sometimes not how you expect things to be at all.
Morale of the story is do what makes you happy and try not to focus on the outcomes!
