We recently connected with Maddy Sharp and have shared our conversation below.
Maddy, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I’m a multi-passionate creative at heart with big vision dreams. My first major in college was photojournalism with the dream of traveling the world while photographing & writing for magazines like Elle or Vogue. I fell in love with and switched my major to psychology, which I now realize was because I had so much of my own healing to do. I dedicated 13 years to psychology and practice as a school psychologist until I realized I was absolutely miserable and had no idea who the hell I was other than a burnt out mom of two toddlers, who was working her life away. I hired a business coach before I even had an LLC and 6 months later resigned indefinitely from my hard-earned career. I started a photography business that took off quickly and allowed me to work with close to 100 inspiring women who transformed in front of my camera. I was able to invest in my second business coach who has so lovingly held the space I never knew I needed for all the self-discovery that would take place and allow me to scale out into brand strategy and coaching. I didn’t know then that taking that risk would forever change my life for the better or that I would be able to marry together all of my passions.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Maddy Sharp and I’m married to my college sweetheart, Kevin. We have two toddlers (Luke, 3 & Ellie, 2) and they’re behind so much of our motivation and love for life. I’m a psychology-driven brand strategist & portrait photographer because it encompasses my multi-passionate, creative soul. I find beauty in the mundane but I’m also very psychological & strategic in how I look at the world. I spent the majority of my working career evaluating behavior, learning styles, achievement and analyzing data and it has been so dreamy to bring that experience into the business world. In business, I started as a motherhood and family photographer prior to scaling more towards brand photography but I love portrait photography and bringing out the confidence in women most of all. I’m very intuitive, especially in photography sessions and pride myself on giving my clients a transformational experience. I also offer strategy calls and a longer coaching container that encompasses brand strategy and business foundation where much of our focus is on self-discovery, mindset and structure. I always felt in my heart I would be a CEO and I know I’m well on my way with the dream of multiple brands and businesses.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
My childhood is pretty significant for trauma and the statistics have always been stacked against me but I’ve always looked at myself as a survivor who was placed here to serve others and make the world a better place. I’m a first generation graduate with 3 degrees, a risk taker and now a business owner as a result of the resiliency I’ve built up throughout my life. Everyone is capable and worthy of anything their heart desires.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I’ve pivoted multiple times in my business and every time it was the result of great expansion. I have a very clear vision and I continue to strengthen my foundation, build out my personal brand and pivot when my intuition says it’s time.
