We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Maddy Levy. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Maddy below.
Maddy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
For my current role I took the risk of making a brisk decision and accepting change and the unknown. I left a stable secure role to try a new opportunity. I have not worked in the restaurant business before and was ready for a big career change. I knew this was the time for me to make a big move. This year I have set new goals for myself and the ability to adapt has been a big factor into facing new challenges and meeting my success.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am from Tucson Arizona and graduated from Arizona State University. I majored in special events management and tourism development and management and have been doing a job in event planning for the best 5 years now. I have experience in weddings, hotels, sports, recreation, fashion events, community centers, children’s programs, event management and being a supervisor and assistant.
I am hard working and have never given up in my field. During the pandemic this was a very tough time for the hospitality industry and event world. There was no in person gatherings or large parties, there were no hotel stays, and no travel. This was difficult for me to accept that I was unable to work unless it involved a computer, phone or “essential” title.
I am very proud of the fact I never gave up on finding new opportunities for myself as well as now I am finding a career that will benefit my future and a company I can grow with.
I do believe living in Arizona also was very different during this time, since the weather is so warm more people were willing to be outdoors and accepted that doing more activities outside was a new normality.
Luckily, with the help of another event planner (Miranda Madison Events) I was able to still assist in smaller outdoor functions, and still found ways to use my skills and keep myself working and occupied. I was very close to choosing a new path and finding different jobs. Now I know events will always be a part of my life.
Now I work for Fox restaurants and can see what a come back the event world has made. People are more willing now to have large group reservations.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Until now I will admit I have had many different jobs but all are experiences within the event field. I would say I am always courteous and respectful of my employer and company. I have made many connections and network as much as possible. Being in Scottsdale a few years now I have built many relationships and work hard to communicate with others in order to build each other up in any industry. I have found many of my interests overlap one another and there are people that may be a beneficial contact to you anywhere you go. Being involved in the community and working in different places has always helped me to my next step.

Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
Keeping in touch with clients is important. Communication and honesty is crucial in any field. With events the client is relying on you to be a part of their event day. They want to be confident their date, time and event details will play out how they would like. I think checking in and verifying tasks and check points along the way of their planning process is very helpful and they feel they can trust you more.
It is always such a great feeling to see the client happy and know they had a great time at the event you helped to plan.
