Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Maddisun. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Maddisun, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
I am always taking risks with my music, and doing things that definitely feel “outside of the box”
Back in March after recording 3 new songs (with producer Ian Docherty) in Toronto, I decided to go to New York City for the first time, alone. I didn’t know anyone there really aside from a few friends on social media, and some music connections that I had been given. I took the risk and (as I say in my song “Dont Say No”) I took a chance on myself. It really paid off, and even though there were some really scary moments there, it was one of the best things I’ve ever done. I ended up at the same party as Joan Baez and Maggie Rogers. It taught me a lot about how to carry myself and hold my own, something I’ve been doing this whole time, but now I have even more tools.
I also made some amazing connections down there, and will definitely be going back!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi! Maddisun here, musician/artist/songwriter from Cranbrook BC. I grew up in the wilderness of the rocky mountains, and music was always around me. Taking inspiration from classic ‘70s rock n roll, and modern alternative music. I like to brand myself as “Joni Mitchell” on rock n roll steroids.
Music is my home. I live in a rural area of BC that nurtured a very grassroots upbringing for my music, despite the limitations set out by living rurally, I have struck like lightning with my music. Never saying no, putting myself out there and working hard to build my artistic abilities and grow my community.
I connect with my audiences in an authentic and meaningful way, always bringing a sense of resilience, positivity and unfiltered passion. There’s never been a plan B, I know I was born to do this and I’m doing whatever it takes. With my new releases “Feelin’ It Again” and “Crawl” I am bringing a new era of musicality and edge to my artistry. Stay tuned.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I have many stories of resilience. I’ve been tirelessly working on my music career for over 20 years. I overcame many obstacles that were put in my way just by being born in a rural town in BC Canada. Fighting to be heard in the bigger cities, going alone into cities as a woman in an industry that isn’t always pleasant.
I had a huge blow when a local (male) sound tech reached out to me and absolutely tore me and my business/live performance a part, he was just downright nasty. It took me a minute, but I got over that and grew so much from it. That continues to happen in smaller ways, but now I hardly notice, or I don’t even entertain it.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
LIVE SHOWS! Social media and online connections are also amazing, but I create true die hard fans through the people that show up to the concerts.
