Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Maddie Moore. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Maddie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.
I created my Meals by Maddie meal prep business almost by accident ironically, and it all started from meal prepping for my roommate in 2017. My first official client was one of her work friends who saw her meal prep and asked my roommate more about my ‘services’, and that’s where it all started! I originally didn’t even know how to cook food in general, which is why the fact that I’ve been doing this for 7 years now is so crazy. I taught myself everything and used Google/YouTube so much to put together a healthy recipe book for my business. I, later on, decided to also get certified in nutrition so that I could make people meal plans/ preps according to their personal goals and guarantee real-time results. The best part about owning a business in the health space is that you are getting to offer a tool to help people make real changes to their day to day life that can affect their entire lives to come. I just know in my purpose that I am here to help people and that is why I have continued to do what I do and am looking forward to also offering life coaching as well to help embody my life as a coach.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Maddie Moore and I am a young entrepreneur in Los Angeles, CA. I am originally from St. Louis, MO and came to LA to grow my meal prep business and my modeling career. I have a passion for making healthy food as yummy as possible to show that there is a huge misconception that healthy food has to be boring! I also am a Love and Alignment coach and am excited to be offering this to my current and future clients to help them work to get the love they want and deserve, work through traumas or any other blockages they have, and self-love. I lost 40 lbs in 2017 before starting my meal prep business and just want men and women to know they deserve to love themselves during their process in evolving just as much as they do after!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
A lot of my social media following started from me posting thrifted outfits because I had a fashion blog called There’s Moore to It and was helping women get cute pieces for the LOW LOW! Then I went through my weight loss journey and shared all about that and shared recipes. My modeling career started to also slowly start to flow with taking photos for my blog because I really started to love being in front of the camera and then decided to make meals and modeling a career later down the road. My biggest word of advice is always being yourself! Don’t be afraid to have your hands in a few different outlets because they make you who you are. If I had listened to all the small-minded people in St. Louis I would’ve never gotten to where I am today to be honest. You are in charge of your platforms and that’s what makes social media so fun and creative!
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Speaking of not listening to what people from my hometown had to say- I had to unlearn a lot of the things I went through when I lived in St.Louis. We are conditioned to believe that when people say bad things about us or truths they make based on appearance, career, family, etc. that is WHAT defines you or that is who you are. I have ALWAYS been myself, especially with how I’ve dressed, making my social media more of an outlet for creative pieces as well as fashion/ modeling content, and being friends with all types of different people with different interests. You’d think that wouldn’t be a bad thing or create people making up all types or things about you but you’d be surprised. For me, I had to unlearn negative things that people would say if not to me via online, or to people I know because that doesn’t define who I am. People who speak negatively about other people are people who don’t love themselves internally and this is a reflection of the way they speak about other people’s business.
