We recently connected with Maddie Miles and have shared our conversation below.
Maddie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Hi there! My name is Maddie Miles and I am the founder of Peace Love Hormones. As women, we are told from a young age that hormones are unpredictable and that the only way to regulate them is via hormonal birth control. In my personal and professional experience, this couldn’t be further from the truth. The truth is that women are feeling sicker than ever before. Unfortunately, our struggles are downplayed in what is a typical, 7-15 minute long doctor’s appointment.
For most of my childhood and young-adult life, I felt unwell. I was in and out of various treatment programs and diagnosed with various labels. I was overly-medicated and under-educated. Eventually, my parents and I found our way to an integrative health and medicine clinic outside of Chicago, where I grew up. From there, the healing truly began. I knew I wanted to study natural and integrative health and medicine and to share this with the world. When stopping hormonal birth control pills, the last of my medications, I knew I wanted to turn to herbal medicine to support my body and mind.
From here, Peace Love Hormones came to life. My first organic herbal remedy, Soothe, has supported me and thousands of women regulate their hormones and cycles. My organic herbal, Bitters, has helped thousands of women and men with their gut health and liver detoxification. My organic herbal, Sleepy, is launching February 10, and has been mindfully formulated to support sleep and the nervous system.
Education is KEY. So, in addition to my organic medicinal herbals, I provide free educational platforms (social channels, podcasts, and website blog posts + research articles) and our organic herbal remedies, Peace Love Hormones is more than just a wellness brand, we are a lifestyle. A lifestyle of going inwards, listening to your unique body and mind, and taking care of yourself using a natural and holistic approach.
What makes us different? We are woman-owned, herbalist and naturopath-practitioner-
Maddie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I work in women’s natural health and medicine. I am a board-certified integrative health and wellness practitioner and herbalist. I formulate organic medicinal herbal remedies for women’s health, with a few that tailor to both men and women. I LOVE what I do. Health is not a fad or anything short-term, but rather a lifelong journey.
My 100% organic herbal formulas are made with the highest quality herbs and a lot of intention, love, and care. My team and I source our herbs from the most reputable herb suppliers, including local farms and responsible wildcrafters, so that our formulas hold the strongest medicinal properties. We use traditional Chinese medicine principles, western herbs, and modern-day research to formulate our remedies. We are helping people connect to their roots.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I, like many women, have had to unlearn A LOT when it comes to my physical, spiritual, emotional, and sensual health. I was diagnosed with various dis-eases of the body and mind ever since I was a little girl. Towards the end of an 8-year-struggle with conventional medicine, I found my relief and power through naturopathy. Ever since then, I have extensively studied naturopathy both in and out of the classroom/clinic. I do it for my own health and well-being and I authentically share it with my community. With the Peace Love Hormones family.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
This is one of my favorite things to talk about, since I did this the non-traditional way. I showed up authentically and humbly. I did this for YEARS before even having the concept for my brand. All I had was a strong and growing knowledge and passion for all things natural health and wellness and wanted to share it with the world. I built a community who loves and trusts me, so that when I launched my passion-project, my herbals and my podcasts, they gave the products a chance and LOVED them so much that their powerful word-of-mouth has grown my brand to where it is now. When something works, and you/the brand is authentic, you will go far.
