Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Maddie In Good Company. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Maddie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
It all started on a cold January night in 2018. Maddie (lead vocals) had just taken a tab of acid and was heading over for the Janis Joplin Tribute show at Exit/In, a legendary Nashville venue. (RIP) She was with some friends, who were a couple at the time, and they had been fighting all night, eventually abandoning her there. She wasn’t gonna let them cramp her style though so she weasled her way to the front of the stage to enjoy the band. Prior to this evening, Chris (guitar) and Maddie had been chatting via Facebook after she posted a “band wanted” ad in a Nashville music group. Since everybody in the band is a Nashville transplant, they really needed some luck to find each other. With Maddie being from Vegas and Chris being from New York the odds were against them! So, Chris said that he was going to be attending the show as well – with some friends. Fast forward back to the show, it’s a couple songs in and Maddie figures its time to scope the place out and bum a cig off someone. She walks outside and sure ’nuff she finds Chris and Griff (drums, Baltimore), who also met that night through a mutual friend, new boot goofin’. She told them that her friends left and she was fixin’ to stay and so they let her tag along for the rest of the show. As you may have already guessed, there was definitely an after party filled with jammin’ and the usual promises of “doing this again sometime”. But, the very next weekend, they met up and did indeed do it again… establishing Maddie in Good Company. 5 years later they are still jammin’ and are now working on the first EP.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Maddie in Good Company’s goal is to be the soundtrack to your life. They are all about creating music and show experiences that make people feel like they just had a fine time in real good company. Like when you find people you want to be around that make you feel more alive, more energetic, encourage you to be your most authentic self, and laugh with you instead of at you. Good company is the family you choose and this band strives to create an energy when playing live that makes you feel as if you are a part of the band. They also invite guest artists and musicians to join them on stage because they’re always open to new collaborations and fresh sounds. All you have to do is listen to their music to learn that they don’t put themselves into any musical box. They have a wide, eclectic variety of influences – from Big Mama Thornton to Eddie van Halen. We’re talking drum solos, we’re talking conga lines, we’re talking ripping guitar parts, sexy sax solos, hair flips, finger points, and booty shakin’ dance moves. Also, a little bit of stand up because Maddie is always working on her tight five. When you leave a Maddie in Good Company experience, you leave happier and with a sense of excitement to carry with you into your daily life.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
“If your life goal is to be a musician, artist, painter or any sort of professional creative a lot of other things immediately go to the way side. It involves a lot of sacrifice and insane amounts of hard work that typically doesn’t pay very well, at first. It can be difficult to live inside the traditional society model and sometimes it can feel like your closest friends and family don’t understand your motivations or what you’re trying to achieve. As a big band, Maddie in Good Company struggles with most of the usual challenges presented to people entering the music industry, plus, the unique challenge of trying to pay so many members for every show, studio session, and hour spent on the project. Of course, oftentimes, our members are sharing their time and talent for free. Despite these difficulties, we find it all to be worth it when we connect with our audience. Our live shows are electric and watching everyone feel the high with us makes every sacrifice look a whole lot more like a wise investment. We hope your readers will agree when they have the opportunity to check out our music.”

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
