We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Maddie Cannon. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Maddie below.
Maddie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start big picture – what are some of biggest trends you are seeing in your industry?
I am seeing more pops of color. In your home, when decorating, rugs and pillows are easier to change out than furniture. Consumers are getting more adventurous with home accessories as far as color and design!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I went to college for Fashion Merchandising and Spanish in hopes of working in the international business world. After being in Manhattan for a few years, working in shoes, I moved back south to Atlanta. I got a job in sales for a home-decor company. I realized how closely fashion and interior design go together. I ended up staying in the home decor industry and almost 8 years later I am making my livelihood off selling area rugs!
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
I have an Instragram featuring my company’s, Oriental Weavers, rugs. I find people via social media platforms in hopes of working together. I will send direct messages with pictures of our product that I feel works with their branding. I have found people nowadays check their DMs almost if not more than e-mail!
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I worked for a shoe company in New York for a few years. Seeing the odds and ins of how they work with their target audience and how they boost their product helped me with trying to grow my rug business.
