We were lucky to catch up with Maddi Goodes recently and have shared our conversation below.
Maddi, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
Well I’m actually a marriage celebrant, my idea for the celebrant business was to have a beautiful piece of rose quartz on me when I married a couple and then to create an epoxy cube with the rose quartz in it. The idea behind this was so their love from that day was sealed forever in that piece of rose quartz and they’d be able to have it as a little gift from me.
So Soul Sealed was created from that.
Maddi, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was introduced into the spiritual and holistic realm when I was around 15, my aunty had her own new age shop on the sunshine coast and on the holidays I’d go work with her. I was so lucky to have the opportunity to learn about crystals, tarot cards and other beautiful goodies you find in those shops. She also had psychic/mediums working in the shop offering readings. I have always been open minded to spiritual rituals and conversations so as I got older I loved speaking to people about their experiences especially ones that couldn’t be explained.
When I was 20 I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, I was in and out of hospitals a lot I had a little spirit attach to me and came home with me (scary for some I know haha). He would be present more so when I slept and I noticed him at the side of my bed. I woke up one night to a tingley feeling on my upper arm and it was as if he was rubbing my arm.
I have been receiving reiki and kinesiology since my early 20’s and have found such healing qualities to both, I love how deep both modalities can be but yet very gentle.
Reiki for those who aren’t too familiar with it is a type of energetic healing, I use light touches to allow the energy to flow through me into my clients. During a reiki session I will also use crystals, essential oils, sound healing and crystal light to enhance the session. Some of my clients will feel pushes, pulls, flashes, aches, pains or even see images.
Being intuitive as well I can receive some messages throughout these sessions.
Kinesiology is a type of healing that uses muscle testing to identify stresses within your physical and unconscious body. This also requires the use of crystals, essential oils, sound, light, colour and more.
After that night I didn’t see him again but felt as though he had come to me as a sign of protection and to let me know it would all be ok (which it was!!).
That was my first conscious experience with the spiritual realm and I think that’s when I realised fully how intuitive I was.
I see clients for both Reiki and Kinesiology, I also have some products such as cleansing room sprays, essential oil rollers infused with crystals, crystals themselves, white sage and palo santo.
The sessions I have with my clients can help with stress, anxiety, PTSD, insomnia, depression, over active minds, anger and a lot more.
I absolutely love these healing tools and have been getting them myself for years, so I am so blessed to be able to introduce other people to them and open their mind to a new different way of healing their mind and body.
My business is still small but my wonderful clients always walk away feeling relaxed and calm. I have many repeat clients some come as often as every 2 weeks, which is brilliant, However, I recommend for people to come perhaps every 4-6 weeks or when they feel is needed.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
INSTA!!! Instagram has been an amazing way of connecting to my clients. People can view my profile and see what I’m about and put a face to the name which I believe is insanely important. Reels took a little while for me to build confidence with, I felt really camera shy/awkward at first, however I was watching a business seminar and they said if you don’t feel comfortable being on camera people wont feel comfortable coming to see someone they may have never laid eyes on. I resonated with this a lot, when I was looking for my reiki people, psychic mediums etc I would google them and book with the people that I liked their photo or felt they “looked nice”.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Comparing yourself to others. I am not the first person to give reiki healing nor kinesiology, therefore it was hard for me to compare my business to another business that had been around for years!
I am a Taurus, we are notoriously competitive, which is perfect for our drive! I did a lot of work around surrendering that point of view or opinion about my business not being as big and successful within the first 12months and really appreciate the little things.
I started reflecting on when I first had the idea, then how I pushed that idea into a reality and all the movements in between and moving forward.
I have quotes and sayings around this topic printed and visually accessible to remind myself of this every day.
