We recently connected with Madame X and have shared our conversation below.

Madame, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?

I recently received an opportunity to be able to go full time as a singer/songwriter which I’m grateful for. Prior, I was a full time bartender and picking up odd jobs and gigs. As well as being booked for singing gigs every now and then. In the beginning, I would reach out to vendors and begin sharing my catalog and telling them about myself and my music, as well as what I’m asking from them. One thing I learned was that, doing your research in the beginning about the venue and taking time to network and build relationships with people, will make it easier to get paid gigs. If talking to people is not your strong suit befriend (genuinely) someone who believes in you and is able to speak on your behalf. My process hasn’t been the easiest in the beginning, something I found myself struggling with was consistency and understanding my worth and value. I knew that I loved this craft because, I would do it for free for quite some time, once i mastered being able to sing in front of a crowd on my own, I slowly began reaching out to people. Managing myself and communicating my pricing was challenging because, I didn’t know what that looked like. So a-lot of me getting paid was either me just throwing a price out there or me accepting what the venue was able to offer. However, now that I’m a bit more established now which allows me to have leverage on what I charge for my services.

Madame, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Hello! My name is Madame X, I am a singer/songwriter from Dallas,Tx. What sets me apart from other artists? I write from my own life perspective, however I’m intentional about maintaining a positive light to each song. I desire to encourage the listener to be inspired and believe that they are capable of overcoming whatever life throws at them. One of my greatest accomplishments that I’m proud of so far, is being able to perform in Chicago, I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity because, it opened my eyes to a new culture and new environment. It also allowed me to meet amazing artists in Chicago! One thing I want my potential fans to know about me and my brand is that we are constantly evolving, as well as challenging ourselves to fail the right way. This process isn’t easy however it is worth it. I’ve found myself in situations that challenged my character and integrity and I’ve also had times where I wasn’t my best whether as a leader or team mate, however I learned from my mistakes and moved forward.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?

Thats a great question, for me one of the most rewarding aspects of being an artist is the fact that people really listen to my music and are inspired. I write for myself first, its a way for me to share my truth. Once I decide to release my music, it no longer belongs to me, it belongs to the people. There’s so much beauty that comes from that, I’ve had people approach me and tell me how my music changed their life, or inspired them, or just show love. That means a-lot to me, because, it reminds me that i’m not alone and what I’ve gone through in my life isn’t just for me.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?

Purpose definitely, everything that I do, I do, not only with a purpose but, I also do it to encourage and inspire people. I’ve spoken that plenty of times because, its true. I want to change the world, and want leave a positive impact on the world where people know that freedom is tangible, love is real, and peace is easier to obtain than we think. This world is full of negativity and hatred. I want my light to shine and show that love still stands. And is still the most powerful force of all. Whether that is through music, the way I live my life, or manifesting through other ideas I have. The base is love and purpose.
