We recently connected with Madaline Collins and have shared our conversation below.
Madaline , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I was nineteen when I decided to start pursuing music on a more professional level, up until that point I’d only really been performing at open mic nights and playing small gigs on occasion. At that, I’m twenty-two now and still working very hard as an independent artist to try and make it a full time career. It is a wonderful challenge every day.

Madaline , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a musician out of Memphis, Tennessee. Self taught on piano, I started teaching myself at fourteen after I’d been singing to myself in my room and in the shower for so long haha Shortly after that I started to write my own music but nothing really stuck until I was in my later teenage years.
I’ve been influenced greatly from artists like Fiona Apple, Natalie Merchant, Ani Difranco, etc….
As a solo artist my style is very much in that sultry, moody, heavy piano vain but with my band “Screamer” it’s much more alt-rock with a little blues.
I also host musicians for a local songwriter/band night at Lamplighter Lounge the last Sunday of every month.
We have a different showcase every time, some featuring more acoustic shows and some with full bands. I’m currently working on trying to incorporate other local creatives into the shows, live art, dancers, you name it!
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Honestly just come out and be with us, a little love goes a long way. Myself as well as so many artists are putting a lot of hard work and effort into showcasing what we do out here!
Having a community of support keeps it thriving.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
My art; music is all I live for and I am rewarded every day just by being able to be part of it, it’s been the most challengingly beautiful experience living in musician hood. I also get so so much love back from what I put out. I wouldn’t and couldn’t trade it for the world.
