We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Macy Krew a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Macy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
With my newest release of “Raise My Voice,” I was so proud that it was chosen for multiple Spotify editorial playlists. I broke my highest records for a song, with it quickly reaching almost 60K streams on Spotify alone. To celebrate that, we released my brand new music video for the song last week. The video PREMIERED ON CMT!!! It has been one of my favorite songs I’ve ever released and written. The icing on the cake is why this song means so much to me.
Back in high school, I had a horribly toxic choir teacher, who would bully me for weeks on end how “I would never make it in music or be anything in life.” This song is one of those full circle moments breaking records, making her regret every negative word she ever spoke to me. This song is all about raising your voice, speaking the truth, and standing your ground to know your worth. I’m so grateful for the supportive parents behind me who not only helped me make sure that she never could do that to another student again, but believed in me from day one so I could believe in myself.
Don’t let anyone or anything get in the way of your dreams. People trying to bring you down are truly already way below you. Here I am, years later, doing music full-time in Nashville, TN, while having my songs on Spotify and CMT, with 4-5 shows a week, selling out the Listening Room and having the most loyal “Krew” fanbase. I couldn’t be more grateful or proud of how far I’ve come, how successful this song has been, and how I never gave up. The blood, sweat, and tears accomplishing all of this as an independent artist continues to pay off.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I love being able to connect with fans through my songs, shows, and stories. It means the world to me to have a loyal fanbase that supports me and my music. Seeing people sing the words to my songs at shows, having people request my music on Broadway, and being able to talk with everyone to see how my music connects to their life is so special. Every share, like, and comment on social media never goes unnoticed, either. Every person part of the “Krew” helps make my dreams come true. I will continue putting my blood, sweat, and tears into everything I do.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I included this story with my first big question about my new release and choir teacher!
