We were lucky to catch up with Macy Danza recently and have shared our conversation below.
Macy, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
I have always wanted to own my own salon, but what kind of salon I wanted had evolved over the years. Most hair salons when I was growing up were full service salons buzzing with people. Of course that sounds like success to most, and for a long time it truly was. But about 5/6 years ago I started to see and want a change. Again you can say I was a “successful” hairstylist, booked solid every week, clients back to back, not even time for lunch. But that kind of hustle will wear you out, both physically and emotionally. But thanks to social media, as I started to follow other stylists who had similar interests as I, (hair extensions and Blonding) I saw a glimmer of hope that my career could be different.
Ultimately I gathered the courage to go for what I wanted as a stylist, pursuing my dream of opening my own salon and rocking the boat of our industry norm.
I was not going to make my girls work back to back with no breaks, I would let them adjust their own schedules for better client communication, and I would make sure they were being coached by myself business wise, so that they knew what they were doing made sense towards achieving their goals.
And so with my God given talent and blessings, I started my brand. Our salon would cater to our specialty services only, dimensional color and luxury hair extensions, we would be a true team/ no competition, (no gossip), and we would be education focused so we are always growing and staying inspired.
There would be fun branding/content shoots and we would offer amenities to our clients that made them feel special.
All these things and more is what I want for my team and our guests. We are saying goodbye to overworked burnt out stylists and truly embracing our career.
Macy, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Well hello reader, my name is Macy Danza, I’m originally from Chicago IL, and have been in sunny south Florida since 2011. I had always wanted to be a hairstylist, my mom had two good friends who owned salons and I just remember loving everything about them. From the way the salon smelled, and they way the ladies were dressed, always so classy and put together.
When I got my chance to I enrolled in the vocational program through my high school senior year where I got to start obtaining hours at the local cosmetology college. After graduation and recovering a scholarship for the program I enrolled full time is cos 2 weeks after graduation because I couldn’t wait to get my career going.
I’ve always been a very observant learner, taking in what I want to emulate and what I’d like to change. I am thankful for everyone who has mentored me and know it was a gift to have received that.
Starting my own salon brand I was very excited to focus on my specialties, color and hair extensions, specifically weft extensions. This method of extensions I have found is extremely gentle on the natural hair and solves 90% of all issues that would make someone consider extensions. I have always taken this service very seriously, wanting only the best for my guests. I have taken numerous courses, my most recent being the most intense time and effort wise, but all for the betterment of my craft. The method of extensions I offer can give you a seamless look, creating the dream hair you’ve always wanted with no damage or detection. At my salon we pride ourselves on keeping your hair healthy, and/or getting your hair healthy even while wearing extensions. Our custom color work on your natural hair and the extensions are truly unmatched.
Not only do you receive fantastic results with us, but we keep our atmosphere laid back and fun, hence part of our name, Luxe; luxury but not stuffy.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
The biggest thing that I feel helped build my reputation in my market was simply caring for people. Living out my Christen faith loving on people not just “getting them in and out”. I really feel this is lacking nowadays and people crave human connection m, and all it takes is taking a genuine unrest in them to connect.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
Not necessarily how I met my business partner but who my business partner is; my husband. He has always been my biggest supporter and so proud of me. But something great that has evolved is that we have come together and integrated his business background and practices into the hair world. This has been tremendously helpful in starting my salon business and making it flourish, because these days we all have to be a little more than just our craft.
