Alright, MACKGRACE thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
I have been fortunate enough to have a parent that has supported me in everything I have done. When I realized that I wanted to pursue music at a young age, my mom put me in all the private lessons I needed, and poured all her time into nurturing my passion. I think the best thing a parent can do for their child is to listen to their dreams, and give them the chance to make them happen. That’s what love is.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Music is something that found me at a very young age. Some of my earliest memories consist of listening to the Black Eyed Peas and Sean Kingston on my iPod, and staying up late to watch MTV’s Top 20 Music Video Countdown. I really don’t remember a time where I wasn’t thinking about music.
Piano was the first instrument I was introduced to, followed by the flute, which I played in the school band from 3rd to 5th grade. During that time, I discovered that I also loved to sing. Singing always felt natural to me, and doing something with it was always top of mind. Even when I was pursuing other things, I would always include becoming a pop star in my plans. When I was 9 years-old, I finally decided to start taking voice lessons with a vocal coach that I ended up training with for nearly 10 years. She is the reason I started writing and performing my own songs, guitar lessons, and pursuing a career in music.
By the end of high school, I decided I was going to study music in college, which led me to attend Berklee College of Music, where I earned a degree in Songwriting, Music Production, and Music Business. After graduation, I made the decision to drive cross-country to Los Angeles to further develop myself as an artist under the name, “MACKGRACE.”
I am most proud of my younger self for finding what lights me up, and sticking with it. The way I approach becoming a better musician every day has been the reason I have made it this far and continue to push for my career. Keeping that spirit alive is what sets me apart from others.
If I could tell my future supporters anything, it would be that I am not a person who will ever stop working towards my goals, and I hope my example inspires them to push for what they want in their own lives.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I find the most joy in singing for people and pouring my soul into a room. The feeling of connecting with a crowd and moving them is the best feeling there is, and is the most rewarding aspect of what I do.
It makes it even better when I get to sing lyrics and melodies that I wrote myself.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal has always been to continue to write and sing music. Music has consumed the majority of my life, and is something that I will never tire of. It is almost like a religion that gives everything in my life meaning, and I never want to stop learning about it.
