We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Mackenzie Roberts a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Mackenzie, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
This is such a fun question to answer! The name of our event company is Mack Hatcher Events. Years ago, I created an Instagram account by the name of “Mack Hatcher Home”. The page was a creative outlet for me and a place to post about home projects, antiques, decor, and trends. I have always loved the name Mack Hatcher, and for good reason. Let me explain… My name is Mackenzie, and a lot of friends and family call me “Mack”. 6 years ago we got a puppy and named him Hatcher. He is black and white like a dairy cow, and when I saw the name passing Hatcher Dairy Farms one day, I thought, “That’s perfect”! My husband and I both grew up in Franklin, TN and if you live here, you know it’s a pretty famous road. We always used to joke that Mack Hatcher was the best road in Franklin and for it to now be the name of our business, has just come full circle. Not to mention, we now live and work off of the road!
Fast forward to 2023, when we were looking for a name for the business, and I immediately said Mack Hatcher Events!! It stuck and we felt was a memorable name, being based in Franklin, and so fun and meaningful to us.

Mackenzie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Mackenzie Roberts, and I co-own Mack Hatcher Events with my husband, Chad. We are a new event rental company in Franklin, TN. After having collected Heirloom China for our own wedding back in 2017, I loved it too much to just toss, sell, or give away. So with that, I decided to start renting it out of a spare bedroom! I would post on Facebook Marketplace, and Instagram, and it soon grew to be a pretty good side gig. I was “the girl with the china plates”! Fast forward to 2023, I was in the music business, and Chad was a Physical Therapist. I had always said if I got out of the music industry, I would love to do something in events but never thought anything else about it until one night my brother came to us and suggested we start a rental company. He had a few out-of-town friends whose wives had started smaller companies with bounce houses, table decor, etc. But he suggested we go big. Not just with china and small details but a full-blown business of tables, chairs, bars, and linens. We probably looked at him like he was crazy, but after a few months of really chewing on the idea, researching, and googling anything we could find about the rental industry, we just went for it. We didn’t think much of it, but we believed in ourselves and thought it would take off. Looking back, I am so thankful for our naive confidence. Haha. Little did we know how much hard work, sweat, tears, late nights, and early mornings would go into this business. But the reward… We knew there had to be light at the end of the tunnel and, we know looking back in 10 years we will be so grateful we started this business! Not to mention the fun we really are having.
We provide timeless and trendy rentals with a smile. :) I love people, I love connection, and I love helping others. To me, providing quality rentals is a lot like co-writing a song. Since I come from music, it’s only natural that I think that way. You start from scratch, and after hearing the other person’s idea, you work together to brainstorm, add, and edit, that vision to create something beautiful. Whether that’s a song or a tablescape, it’s rewarding. That’s one of my favorite parts about it.
Mack Hatcher is working hard to not only provide beautiful rentals for your event but to provide a pleasant and easy experience. When working with Chad and me or one of our team members, we want you to feel seen, and heard, and ultimately to put your mind at ease. Events can be stressful. Let us help you take a load off. We’ve got you. From concierge planning within our company to on-time delivery. We will be there for you!
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I have had to unlearn is that perfectionism is not reality. I have been a perfectionist my whole life. Interestingly enough, not about everything. Mostly just about the things pertaining to me and my reputation. When I started this business, I demanded perfection. I demanded we make no mistakes and worried that if we did, or if a customer was unhappy, did not like me, did not approve of our services or our products then our business would surely be doomed and fail. WHEW! I am so thankful that was just a false narrative I was telling myself. I’ve come such a long way this past year and am honestly grateful for the hard moments that have come our way. I’ve learned my lesson not necessarily
the hard way, but just the right way I think. I’ve learned to give myself, my team, my clients, and the venues and spaces we work in grace. We’re all just doing the best we can and while we do strive to be the best we can be, and provide the best quality of service and of items that we can, sometimes mistakes happen. We do what we can. We apologize, and we are truly genuine in the way we handle the situation, we do all we can to make the mistake right, and that’s all you can do. At the end of the day, it seems clients are actually much more forgiving, kind, and honestly more loyal in the long run when you do own up to a mistake, handle the situation and move on. Is that always the case? No. But I have learned to know my own heart, and that sometimes you just can’t make everyone happy. It’s hard not to take it personally all the time, but I know it’s not the end of the world. It’s just a hiccup and you handle it. It’s business. So ultimately I have learned it’s more about how you handle the situation vs the problem. I am thankful for this lesson of unlearning that everything I do has to be perfect. Life is beautiful, but far from perfect. Isn’t that what keeps it spinning?!
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clients for me has been joining the Williamson Country Chamber, being out in the community, building those relationships and being consistent with it. Showing up for your community, and for people goes a long way and word of mouth travels fast! You can of course follow along with us on social media, too! We love making new friends! :)
