Mackenzie , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?

I remember my parents telling me from a young age to avoid pursuing something that could be learned in just a few days. Instead, I should look for a career that would allow me to evolve and learn new things constantly.

Both my parents were hard workers, and my mom never took a sick day when I was growing up. They always encouraged me to excel in school, pursue my interests in sports, and find happiness throughout.

My mom was a working mom who showed me that it was possible to have a career you loved while raising children and staying involved in their lives. She taught me how to multitask and prioritize self-care, exercise, and happiness to be the best version of myself, just like she was.

My dad reminded me to slow down, reflect on my jobs, and learn from my mistakes. He taught me that every failure and every tear shed while working would teach me a valuable lesson and strengthen me. These experiences helped me realize that I craved a job where I could manage myself, elevate myself, and learn something new every day.

My parents never pressured me into choosing a career path, but instead, they supported me as I navigated through different jobs after college. They encouraged me to explore my interests and find my passion through self-discovery. They taught me to think big and dream ahead, empowered me to speak up and express myself, and encouraged me to challenge traditions. They emphasized the importance of being kind, maintaining a work-life balance, and being financially stable. They also supported me during difficult times such as moving and changing jobs. Higher education was always a part of my life, and it taught me important self-management skills that have helped me in my career. Thanks to my parents, I have developed these qualities throughout my professional journey and found my niche in content creation.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Hi everyone, I’m Mackenzie Biehl. I reside in Tallahassee, FL with my husband, Taylor, our two young children and our 75 lb goldendoodle.

I am a native Floridian, a University of Florida alumnus, and an identical twin.

I started my blog (mackenziebiehl.com) when our daughter Harper (now 6) was turning 1. I have a background in sales and marketing and worked to transition into building my own business through my blog and social media channels.

I now run my own media and marketing company specializing in food and lifestyle content creation.

I love sharing innovative and attainable ideas. I love food and entertaining. I’m always sharing fresh, flavorful, and often healthy recipes that we enjoy daily. I love sharing floral arranagements and easy hosting hacks, I aim to inspire you with approachable and exciting ideas to elevate your life..

I believe the key to success is passion, the ability to listen AND learn – and – of course, execution. Associate with people who are smarter and more successful than you; A supportive spouse (partner) is helpful too ;) Ask questions. I have spent a lot of time learning from people who I admire.

Render a quality product and the rest will fall into line. Regardless of what you do or where your passions may lead you, it is quite simple to aim to deliver the same quality product you would expect for yourself. I focus on capturing and sharing relatable, quality content.

Learn everyday. Treat every day as if it’s your first day on the job. Every day I learn something new. I believe that it is important for any individual’s growth. I learn how to better edit videos, edit colors in Lightroom, target trends, and even become a better cook. We are all students of our craft.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?

As a creative professional, having control over my own time is the most rewarding aspect of my work. In the past, I always worked hard and gave my best to every employer and company I worked for. But now, I can focus all my energy and creativity on myself.

I’m able to dedicate myself fully to the brands I work with, pouring my heart and soul into every project. I have the freedom to choose which brands to represent and which creative ideas to share with my audience, allowing me to forge my own path.

Working with new and innovative brands across various sectors, as well as long-admired brands, is incredibly fulfilling. I get excited brainstorming new and innovative ideas to bring campaigns to life, and I find great satisfaction in seeing them come to fruition.

What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?

Initially, I treated influencing as a side hustle while working in sales. Achieving milestones like my first paid campaign and brand partnership brought financial stability and a better home life with my family. Upon first considering my foray into the world of influencing/content creation, I approached the endeavor with cautious optimism. I was working in sales and marketing at the time and viewed it as a supplementary side hustle. As I progressed, I celebrated each incremental milestone such as my first paid campaign and successful brand partnership.

At the end of 2021, I made just as much money in one month as I did in my sales job that month, and my husband encouraged me to take content creation full-time and see what doors could open. I’m so glad he did. Once I was able to put all of my energy into content creation full time, my brand took off.

The success of my influencer career allowed me to achieve effective time management, financial freedom, and stability, which in turn provided me with a more cohesive family life at home with my children.
