We recently connected with Mackenzie Adkins and have shared our conversation below.
Mackenzie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
My upcoming EP is my most meaningful project thus far. I had a particular vision for it early on and thought I was ready to drop it, but things changed for me drastically after the passing of my grandfather last September. After his death, my vision started to change and my sound changed with it. I have a different plan for my EP now. I know that this change is for the better, and I hope that all my listeners agree with me.

Mackenzie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am Macknificent, an independent music artist from Henry County, GA. I have been a singer for as long as I can remember. I grew up in a church home. With my father being a pastor, I was always expected to use every gift that God gave me. The majority of my adolescence was spent doing things that I was deemed good at. It was not until I was in college, at Valdosta State, that I began to realize that music was my purpose. I struggled to keep a consistent major, so it became clear to me. I realized singing, writing, performing, promoting, dancing, etc. all had a common denominator mentally for me. Shortly after this revelation, I started creating music full time. I started an Instagram page (@macktunes) where I push content weekly. Then, in 2020, I dropped my debut EP, The Journey Begins, on all music platforms. After a while, I moved back to Henry County and began to do shows tri-weekly in the Atlanta, GA area. I currently am working on my second EP and a line of merch. For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The best part about being an artist is the freedom of expression. I chose the path of music because it brings me joy and peace. I genuinely feel good while working in my craft. It is hard to grasp this emotion while working a job that does not align with my passion. The reward is the state of mind.
How did you build your audience on social media?
When I decided to take singing seriously, I was in school at the time. Naturally, my budget for my business was pretty tight. Social media is completely free and the most convenient way to grow an audience. I started by posting daily, commenting on everything I saw, reposted and formed virtual relationships with my followers. I learned that most people enjoy being a part of something. The more I engaged with my followers, the more they interacted back with me and reposted me. This inevitably grew my audience. I still practice this method today. Think of social media as free publicity. Every time you post, you are making progress.
