We recently connected with Mabell Rodriguez and have shared our conversation below.
Mabell, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
Yes, I’ve been fortunate to turn my creative work into a full-time living. It wasn’t an overnight success; it was a journey that started with small steps. I began as a part-time makeup artist, working with locals in my community, friends, and family. When the pandemic hit, I turned to Instagram to share tips, helping my clients maintain their looks while in lockdown.
Things took off when one of my TikTok videos went viral. Within weeks, I had hundreds of thousands of followers. I started sharing more content, and the engagement was incredible. However, the big challenge was figuring out how to monetize this new platform. I had no idea what a collaboration or brand deal was until a brand reached out asking for my rates. I laughed because I had no clue what to charge.
From there, my husband and I learned as we went. We set up affiliate marketing, created a professional website, and streamlined everything to manage the influx of opportunities. Looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing because every step helped me grow and shape the business into what it is today. Knowing what I know now, I’d say it’s important to be consistent, stay authentic, and not be afraid to ask for help or advice.
Mabell, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Mabell Rodriguez, a beauty and fashion influencer who loves sharing authentic content with my amazing audience. I started as a makeup artist in my local community, but during the pandemic, I pivoted to sharing beauty tips and tricks online. What began as a way to stay connected with my clients turned into a full-time career in social media.
Today, I provide honest reviews, makeup tutorials, fashion tips, and lifestyle content. My goal is to make beauty accessible and relatable while showcasing brands and products I truly believe in. What sets me apart is my dedication to authenticity. I only promote products I’ve tested and loved, and I strive to build trust with my audience by being transparent about my experiences.
One thing I’m most proud of is the supportive community we’ve built together. It’s not just about beauty tips; it’s about creating a space where people feel inspired, confident, and connected. If there’s one thing I want my audience to know, it’s that their trust means everything to me.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding part is the connection I get to build with my audience. Seeing people try the tips or products I’ve shared and hearing how it’s helped them is such a fulfilling experience. Creativity isn’t just about producing content; it’s about creating moments that resonate with others.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
My first viral moment on TikTok really opened the door, but I quickly realized that going viral isn’t enough, you need to keep your audience engaged.
I focused on staying true to myself and sharing content that felt relatable. I also made sure to interact with my audience as much as possible, replying to comments and messages to build a genuine connection.
For those starting out, my biggest advice is to be consistent and authentic. Post regularly, but make sure what you’re sharing reflects who you are. Don’t get discouraged if growth feels slow, it takes time. Also, engage with your audience; social media is a two way street, and the more genuine connections you build, the more your audience will grow.
Make sure to repurpose your content across all social media platforms. You never know what opportunities the future might bring, and it’s always a good idea to diversify instead of relying on just one platform.
