Maayan, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
I hope that my legacy will be to make the following statement more widely believed and acted upon: “practical delusion helps create a new and better reality for us all.” I firmly believe and want to use my life to show that you can take your imagination, combine it with practical action, and turn those 2 forces into a new and better reality for all of us to live in. Everything we enjoy now as part of modern life and society was at some point a grand delusion, backed by faith, hope, and practical need. If we remove our own mental barriers to what’s possible, together we can transform our world.

Maayan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi, I’m Maayan (pronounced My-yawn but I promise I’m not boring 😉). When I was 19 years old I was in a gas explosion that changed my life forever….
I have founded 5 successful companies and created massive success online using social media in the past 12 years. I have also built an audience of more than 2 million followers across Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and Facebook.
Here is a bit of how I got to where I am today:
After surviving a gas explosion when I was 19 years old I was homeless and living out of a 1978 RV. I built my first business called 2K Diffuser Beads to 6-figures in one year using the power of social media.
My second successful business I built was a graphic design and sticker printing business called Graphx Creations.
I then taught myself glassblowing and went on to build a glassblowing business where I sold more than $1,000,000 in glass art over the course of 5 years.
I started my own consulting company, Maayan Gordon Media in 2020.
Today I help businesses increase their profits, employee happiness, customer engagement, and impact through EQ-Marketing training. Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
When I started my glassblowing business, I didn’t know how to blow glass. I knew the first year was going to be basically practice for how to make glass art pieces. I saw a huge opportunity in being a starting artist in that I could share every part of my journey with my audience to help them connect with the art I was making. This would also help me easily justify price increases in my glass work as my audience on social media saw me learn new techniques and overcome challenges.
So I started posting my finished glass pieces to my Instagram from day 1, expecting to receive negative feedback, but also support. What I never expected was for people to want to buy my artwork right away. But the very first piece I posted generated a DM conversation that went something like this:
Follower – “Hey, how much is that blue and green piece you just posted?”
Me – “Oh that’s not for sale. Im just a beginner artist and its not made very well.”
Follower – “But I love the colors, I’d really like to buy it.”
Me – “Thank you! I’m just worried that it will break because im not very good yet and I don’t want you to end up with a broken piece.”
Follower – “That’s ok, would you take $10 for it?”
Me – “Are you sure?”
Follower – “Yes, its gorgeous and $10 is a steal, I’d like to buy it.”
Me – “Ok, and if it breaks, I’ll send you a replacement for free.”
Follower – “Deal! Thank you so much.”
I realized there was a huge gap in the market for low priced art pieces that had a focus on color combos, and I realized a huge opportunity for me to generate sales.
So I came up with one of the best sales ideas of my career: “ZERO DOLLAR AUCTIONS”
I used Instagram just like eBay, and posted every single piece I could make starting at $0 with bid increments of $3 or more. I started selling everything I could make and gaining a TON of new customers. Some pieces went for $5 and others went for $50!
I was able to pull this off by focusing on popular color combos and glass designs that I would make in 5 minutes or less. I became super fast at making pieces and built a huge customer base by selling the glass in a way no one else was marketing.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
When I started my first business, 2K Diffuser Beads, I was homeless living out of a broken down RV. After I got our first distributor that placed an order for 1,000 jars, I was on cloud 9. I had so much belief in confidence in our product and our business growing. I decided the next logical step was to vend at a tradeshow and skyrocket our sales. The problem was that the booth for the tradeshow I found was $2,000 and we only had $1,000 saved after all our COG and expenses.
So I convinced my husband it was a good idea for us to sell the RV we were living in to make the cost of the trade show booth. He agreed and we sold our only shelter that we had.
And then the tradeshow was a huge fail and we ended up making only $500 total for a loss of $1500 and we no longer had anywhere to live. We also had 2 dogs we had to take care off. We were on the streets. We used the last of our money to stay in a sketchy motel room for a few days and then rented a car and drove it all the way from Los Angeles to Seattle. We then lived out of my husband’s dad’s garage for 2 months while still working the business to try and get back on our feet.
We were able to make enough money to move back into a rental house, but it was pretty miserable there for a while.
After losing all our money and momentum because of the tradeshow it would have been super easy to just give up. But we refused to let that keep us from achieving our dreams and we saw it as a painful lesson learned.
