We recently connected with Maar and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Maar thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
Honestly, I just want to make a positive impact through my art for who ever is willing to take time to appreciate it. I don’t know what people will say about me i never really thought about it, that’s up to them. I hope I’m remembered for being a super cool guy

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hello hello My name is Jamaar Robinson i go by Maar. I was born and raised in Austin. Texas. I am an artist. My main disciplines are photography, filmmaking and music; i do a little fashion here and there as well. Music is my first love I’ve been writing songs for as long as i can remember picking up and putting down many instruments over the years. I first fell in love with film at 12 years old working on my middle school announcements and i started to take it seriously my junior year in high school around then is when i started to get into photography. From there I went on to earn a Bachelors of Arts degree in Film Production from Dillard University in New Orleans, Louisiana. At Dillard is where i found an interest in fashion starting my own clothing line called The Gnostic Apparel. You can find my clothes at thegnosticapparel.com. I now live in Atlanta, Georgia where i do freelance photography and teach film. You can find my photo gallery at Jamaarrobinson.com and on my Instagram @Maarsquiat.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I feel like i have stories of resilience for days however one thing specifically that comes to mind is from the first day on set on the first feature film i worked on. After getting everything set up for the first shot the person over the building came over and kicked us out even though we had all the paperwork we needed. So we had to shut down for the day the team and I went to the person who is over the buildings boss, showed them the paperwork and made sure that we were good to film for the rest of the time we needed.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I wouldn’t say i had to unlearn any lessons per se. However, one lesson that took me a long time to learn is to ask for help. I can’t lie and say that I’ve got it all the way down but I’m a lot better than i used to be. The backstory isn’t related to what i do but this is when i feel like it clicked. I was having some car troubles and i was trying to fix it by myself when a friend called to check in on me and i told him what was going on and the first thing he said to me was “*sigh* Jamaar ask for help” and for some reason that stuck with me.
