Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Maame Wilson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Maame thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
As a former 3rd grade teacher, I faced many adversities in the classroom. I wanted all my students to excel to their full potential and simply never give up! I knew that came with some obstacles such as parent communication and support, economic disadvantages, lack of resources, and emotional wellness. I knew that in my classroom, NO was never the answer, and my students should always push through. Most did, but what about me?
I had all those expectations for my scholars but I held back from the things I really wanted to do! I wanted to be a full time entrepreneur but I was scared. The same reassurances given to my students, I didn’t give to myself.
During the coronavirus pandemic, that changed. I was able to slow down, like all of the world, and think. Life took us for the loop and I refused to fall into any cycle of self doubt and fear. August of 2021, I decided to not return to the classroom. My mission was to be a full time bridal hairstylist and I did it! The blessings that began to pour into my life was overwhelming.
I now do these for my students I pushed in the classroom. I was able to now be the example for them. Their reason to say, if Mrs. WIlson can do it, SO CAN I!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing clientele is consistency and great personality. Whether you sale products or provide a service, you must remain consistent. Your consumer should never have to guess whether they investment will be worth it each time they spend money with you. I value superior and neat work always! As a service provider, a great personality is always important. I enjoy knowing my energy is pure and could be what my client needs. When working, I like to feel like the sister, mother, or friend my clients can lean on. ITS VERY IMPORTANT!
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
In the industry of bridal hair, it’s such a large investment for the engaged couple, They want to know that whoever they choose as their vendors can execute to their full potential. I believe what has helped me build in my market is the quality work I give and teamwork I display with other vendors on wedding day. It’s so important to be able to work with others and provide the best outcome for the client. Doing this, I’ve built many relationships with those in my market.
