M. Nikki , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I am a writer and content creator. I enjoy creating stories that highlight diverse groups and inspire others. Fall 2020 I was in a new environment and dealing with a new normal, yet I still wanted to continue my creative goals and I remembered a project I previous started.
The project was a animation that follows the life of a nerdy teen as he balances his school and home life. During 2022 I revised the character and loved it so much, I put the character on a shirt and began my company Nerd Cool Apparel. So often, images in media are oversaturated with violence and negativity, my brand is a way to combat those images.
My goal with the company is to change the narrative of what is cool. My brand highlights literacy, diversity, mental health awareness, and more. Nerd Cool Apparel creates comfortable clothing for those who embrace their nerdish and introvert ways, without apology.
In addition, to using clothes to highlight the nerdish movement, I interview other creatives/artist to show how every industry benefits from nerds.

Currently, we offer t-shirts, hoodies, tote bags, buttons, and will expand to other apparel needs.
The brand is ever-evolving to improve the customer experience. The t-shirts and hoodies are soft and comfortable and speaks for themselves when you enter a room.
Since starting the company I am most proud of the support given by others who are also nerdish but never celebrated.
Nerd Cool Apparel gives everybody a seat at the table no matter your background or zip code.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
As a new business, brand awareness is important and our main priority. I find that being out in the community allows me to share and promote the brand and network with others. I enjoy attending art exhibits, music festivals, and pop up shops to meet people and share my items. Collaborating with other creatives, models, and influencers is another way I like to bring awareness to the brand.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Relying on the research and development stage allows us to test the market and make improvements as needed. We listen to our customer’s needs. Online shopping can be difficult for some, so we try to be accommodating so customers get the exact item they want in a timely fashion.
