We recently connected with M. Kellz and have shared our conversation below.
M., looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
As a child, entertainment was always fascinating to me. The way that many forms of entertainment can cross paths to create an overall mood or feeling was amazing. For example, lets say that sports are on t.v. Then they have a commercial break. During that commercial break theres music being played in the background. Then the programming returns to the sporting event. This transition then repeats until the conclusion of the sporting event. That process included a combination of athletes, musicians, actors, viewers(at the sporting event watching live), producers, directors, products, and hosts. Combined, they all made a collaborative effort to create entertainment through a t.v. that just impacted the viewer that’s watching it. The same goes with movies and the previews prior. Or live shows, plays, or concerts, and the intermissions included. Also, these forms of entertainment aren’t just provided in settings that are intended to entertain. Even everyday life provides various forms of entertainment. I’ve witnessed entertainment inspire, motivate, and even encourage plenty of individuals. So to answer the question, at an early age, I gained an interest in being able to express my thoughts artistically, and provide entertainment that will impact someone’s life in a positive manner. Its a real connection, and an amazing feeling to impact others.
M., love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Thank you for having me again! Well, simply put, I am M.Kellz! I say it this way, because a major part of this profession is fully “stepping into” who you value yourself to be. As a child, entertainment was always interesting to me, fascinating even. The thought that whether it be sports, music, acting, or any other form of entertainment that can literally impact someone’s life in a positive manner, inspired me to involve myself. I am a recording artist/ musician/ song writer/radio host/ producer/actor/ film maker and the founder of M.A.K. Entertainment. I value finding a purpose in our existence. For any and all individuals that involve their selves with our brand, by listening, viewing, downloading, streaming, and or purchasing merchandise, you are truly appreciated. For that, you are a honorary member of this brand movement! That’s where my #LETSKEEPMAKINGHISTORY phrasing derived from. Its not only ME, its ‘US’ that will push this movement forward and create outlets and opportunities while also enjoying the overall entertainment aspect of it all. Plus my music is 🔥!!! So I’ve been told, LOL.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I always held an appreciation for free-styling. I use to memorize rap songs as early as 8- 9 years old. Actually not only rap songs,… if a song stuck in my mind, no matter the vibe, I would easily memorize it. I mention this, because while learning others songs, subconsciously you are perfecting a particular craft. Once you apply your own perspective, with your own creativity, it becomes second nature to freestyle and structure a song that fits your unique style. I began to freestyle continuously and also structure songs without recording myself. I then decided to one day use money that I had saved, to purchase a laptop, the protoools software, and an inexpensive microphone. That was a great investment. I took full advantage of it too. I recorded a total of 25 songs in a month’s time frame. Then one day I was without that investment. The program, the laptop, and any unsaved music was gone. How, isn’t necessarily important. Without having a way to self record, I went to the internet to search for local professional studios. I then went on to record one of my first ‘‘In Studio’’ songs called ‘Reminiscent’. The moral is; the inconvenience of not being able to record in my own space, did not stop me from going out to collab with another producer and engineer. The positive side of this experience is that not only am I able to record and engineer my own music, but I was also able to experience working in an outside studio and being knowledgeable about both processes. Having that mental resilience is most definitely a key to success. So, my advice to all artists and creators, is to not focus on obstacles, but to instead focus on the finish line!
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
If we’re speaking from an “in the moment” perspective, being an artist and creator is truly a therapeutic outlet. To be able to share and express my thoughts and ideas through art is a peaceful feeling. In an overall sense, helping others whether directly or indirectly is highly rewarding.
