We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lyyfe Williams a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Lyyfe, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
I feel that everything is perfect timing. If I would have started sooner I don’t think I’d be where I am now.
Lyyfe, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Crazy story I never thought about becoming a director. I just loved visual arts. I did self portraits of myself and someone randomly asked could I shoot them a video for 50$ and I took it and it’s been a snow ball ever since. I feel what sets me from the others is that I truly love art with everything in me and I don’t do it for money, even though you need it to survive if I could make art free I would. And I’ve came super far in my career working with Ayo & Teo, Lil Solider, TV shows, short films and more.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I feel like lessons I had to unlearn was good things don’t happen to good people. Good things happen to anyone who work for good things to happen if that makes sense. And realizing that it’s who you know and what type of person are you. Everything in this world is like a puzzle and what you are fighting for is a spot in the puzzle but are you the right piece for the spot is the question.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Yeah a book I’m currently reading it’s a couple but one that changed the way I look at things is “The New World Order” it gave me a whole new look at life. And made me think about stuff from other perspectives. I like that’s a great one to read.
