We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lyssandra Guerra a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Lyssandra, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
Yes – in 2022 I hit a wall. I was no longer sustaining my business from a place of love and purpose. Being a solopreneur in the wellness industry had me overwhelmed with the amount of jobs I had in order to maintain my business, retain my clients, and grow. I became exhausted to the point where I didn’t have anything to give to my self or Native Palms. Looking back, a lot of the overwhelm stemmed from the fact that I was keeping myself small. I wanted to grow my business but I was afraid to hire help and ask for support because on a deeper level I didn’t feel like I could “do it”. Because I kept myself small, I put my business in harm. Somewhere during my journey I lost confidence in my abilities. It was really hard move, but I allowed myself a long time-out so that I could focus on my mental health and ended up returning to my career and self with a new perspective and a stronger sense of confidence and trust in myself and the universe. If it weren’t for surrendering to that pain and confusion, allowing myself to working on my limitations and straight up just resting, I wouldn’t currently be pivoting my business model and SO thrilled to leap into the unknown with curiosity and excitement.
Lyssandra, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I began my career as a holistic nutritionist and women’s health and menstrual coach, after healing my body from the effects of opiate addiction, which had left my digestion and menstrual cycle imbalanced and weak.
I founded Native Palms Nutrition with the goal of making wellness more accessible and to inspire curiosity about the intricacies of healthy bodies and menstrual cycles, and to instill a desire for rejuvenation through holistic methods like nutrition, herbal remedies, and energy healing.
And now with over 14 years of personal experience and formal training, I help women and menstruators through 1×1 and group coaching to reset their gut, identify foods that work for them, and balance their hormones and menstrual cycles naturally. It is my purpose to help you reclaim your body, health, and ultimately be your own healer, without dieting or extremeness.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
What has helped my build my reputation as a holistic nutritionist has been the consistency in showing up with valuable content and education. If I can teach and share anything that can help someone feel better than I have gained someones trust. And I do this over and over again on my platforms.
This has helped build my reputation with potential clients but also other leaders in the industry and wellness companies. When they go look at my work – from my websites, social media – they see I’m providing specific education based on my niche, and have been doing it consistently. To be honest, I don’t wait always wait for others to reach out to me – I make it happen. I introduce myself, start a conversation, and build relationships.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Experience. You can be a total book nerd and know all the stats, but if you aren’t out there in the real world, experiencing, feeling, and connecting to yourself and others, then the opportunities don’t flow to you as easily. It’s harder to connect with potential clients an audience if you can’t relate to them or have walked in their shoes.
