Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lyssa Lovejoy. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lyssa, appreciate you joining us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
Every family has their “ thing” we had our struggles and triumphs. My parents story directly affected how they raised 11 children. The very best thing other than instilling a strong faith, was teaching us/giving us the encouragement to find what our gifts were and allowing it to manifest within us. Mine was art & innovation.
From the point of them allowing us/me to draw on my walls to supporting my ideas on how to make “fun money” as we did not have that type of cash flow with 11 children, we were always encouraged to “find a way”. They helped us think it through, helped us find the material and even taught us the language of entrepreneurship
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers?
I have a few irons on the stove. I am co-owner of a Fitness Evolution- wellness is a huge part of my world and ability to stay energized. I also am a full time Artist- this has allowed me to purse all I am passionate about in the Arts. I have worked with many organizations in trauma based therapy in which I brought art in as a healing aspect of care. I have facilitated art & yoga/meditation retreats and more. The innovation side of art I have learned not only to make a living as a “fine arts” professional but my art has been sought in product branding. I have certainly been blessed with opportunities!
I am most proud of the ability to bring the intuitive part of my art to clients whether it is within commissions or teaching others to see that value in healing side of arts.
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
Great question!! The funny thing is that that is how I learned to follow my heart. Create these crazy side hustle- $10 here $50 here, it all adds up! You build clientele, experience, budget for new material and a name! It allowed you to better your skill. I created my path through the SH.
It also gave me freedom to allow the creative side grow while working a regular income job (if ever I had such a thing).
Now my side hustle is part of my real world, real life full time job and I charge accordingly to supplement appropriate revenue.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe in the power of what I do and I continue it by inspiring other to live their authentic self with in art. By helping them tell their stories through art. The experience of the client in a commissioned piece or workshops gave power to their voice and by word of mouth it helped grown my reputation. I have kept my Fathers and Mothers wisdom living as professional artist.
I am open about my struggles of the ups and down, yet always talk about my resiliency. Growth is hard, growth is beautiful and growth means you move forward. My success to do what I love has built my reputation, following through on my word, sometime at the side of putting myself last has built my reputation. I have made mistakes, I have regretted some of the moves BUT NEVER allowed those to determine that I was no longer worthy to be me. My whole world and how I depict subject matter in my art is about resilience- “I believe in the power of what I do”
