We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lyric TheArtist. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lyric below.
Hi Lyric, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
s around me. I was always drawing & everything today started then. Before I even knew what a tattoo was I was doing pen drawings on myself & lot of my sports teammates & classmates would pay me to draw “pen tattoos” on them…I ended up being given a tattoo magazine & that’s when I decided I was going to become a tattoo artist. I had this pair of navy blue suade Jordan 1’s & my step mother put them in the washing machine & the suade faded. So I took a sharpie & colored the panels black, & drew my name on graffiti letters on them. Over the course of my life I did keep up with my art & always kept the intent of being a tattoo artist but at that time I never had any type of support so it wasn’t as prioritized as it should have been. I did go to college & I paid out of pocket at one point & I figured out at the time it wasn’t for me, but I won’t say I didn’t learn anything though. While figuring out that college wasn’t for me at the time I looked for apprenticeships & was unsuccessful, which led me to take initiative & literally go teach myself. It wasn’t until around 2014 when I was working a job & art was my side endeavor. I was fired from that job even though I was never late, never missed a day, & worked hard. That’s when I really realized being a creative/artist is what & who I’m SUPPOSED to be & once that became my priority everything began to manifest itself.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Ive been an artist my whole life & as my life progresses I find more & more things that I can put art on & it’s different & it’s cool. Besides tattooing, I get into all these different visual art projects by really investing my own time & money into a project for myself & a lot of times people either buy the project I’m working on for myself or they end up commissioning their own custom work & it goes from there. I’m a full time tattoo artist, I make music & record & engineer my own music as well as others, I customize sneakers/backpacks & purses/motorcycle fairings/motorcycle jackets & helmets, & I make canvas paintings (mostly acrylic paint). What I help my clients with the most is the delivery of quality things & then knowledge they receive when they come to me. What sets me apart from others is when I get down to work, I get down to WORK, my attention to detail, & how I’m never afraid to take a risk. What I’m most proud of is my confidence, authenticity, & my ability to manifest & speak things into existence for myself. What I want my future clients/fans/followers to know about me/my brand/ my work etc. it’s ok to be you, do you, & believe in you. If you aren’t the start, where is it?
We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
I personally feel that NFT’s were created as a way for people who really don’t have an interest in art & aren’t the least bit creative, to feel included in the art world for a few months. At one point everybody was on them & like a video game, people put it down. But that’s what people do when they’re not really interested in something.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
There’s this book “Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff…And It’s All Small Stuff” that I go to at least twice a week & re-read a passage or two at random, meditate on what I read & work on applying it to my life. I can say it’s helped me become more patient with others, more compassionate, & seeing things from other perspectives.
