We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lyric Everly a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Lyric, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
I’ve been running my creative agency (Everly Agency) for years and we’re launching a mission-driven wellness startup (Cloudspa) later this year. Cloudspa came about after my personal wellness journey about 6 years ago when I was going through a second divorce and my body started shutting down from the pain, shame, and stress. Doctors gave me rounds of antibiotics and even took me in for a surgery because I was holding so much tension in my kidney area that it kinked off. Things got progressively worse until I finally said enough and started focusing on wellness practices and natural remedies. I began a guided meditation practice and learned how to release tension in my body through breathwork and bodywork. My body returned to homeostasis within months. Now I’m on a mission to help others discover daily wellness practices! Cloudspa is an online membership site that will offer daily mindful practices, breathwork, integration, coaching & community. Every session will have a live guide for connection and sharing. I’m on a mission to introduce these life-changing practices to as many souls as I can in my lifetime, to help people discover peace and inner-power.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ve been a creator my entire life. I started in music at 5 years old and began designing my own album covers as a teen in Oregon. That naturally progressed into graphic design work and my ex & I had a creative agency in Austin, TX in our 20’s. When we split up, I moved to LA and worked for several ad agencies, eventually starting my own agency in 2018. Everly Agency is a full-service creative agency specializing in intuitive branding, design, digital, and web. My team moves in excellence and loves helping people win.
In addition, community service work has been very important to me and I’ve been “Big Sister of the Year” for Big Brothers Big Sisters + “Volunteer of the Year” for Youth Business Alliance. I’ve been a core member of Fit For Service with Aubrey Marcus & Kyle Kingsbury this year.
Cloudspa.com is launching in September 2023 to provide a beautiful online space encouraging people to stay in daily practice with mindfulness and wellness activities, always with a live guide for community and connection. These practices have profoundly changed my life and I want to pay it forward.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I believe consistency has been the top factor for building my reputation in the industry, especially in the creative industry. A layer deeper, I’d call it consistent quality care. I treat every project as if it were my own and check in with myself about how I’d want to be treated in specific situations and look for ways to add value. I often talk to my team about how skills can be taught, but being the ones who truly care about projects, people and following through, is the differentiator for excellence.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Get to know your team personally and find out what drives them. Know their Meyer’s Briggs, ask about their love language, and find out their values. There are online tests for all of this, then you can encourage and reward each individual in meaningful ways. I also love sending random Postmates gift cards as snacks fuel projects. :)
I’ve noticed that the notion of winning together can add extra motivation, so I always speak in “we” statements to keep everyone engaged. People don’t always love putting in extra effort, but everyone loves playing on a winning team.
My two business partners are also phenomenal leaders who consistently recommend inspiring podcasts and books to keep everyone motivated and growing.
