We caught up with the brilliant and insightful LyR-X a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, LyR-X thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I (James), had the desire to be a singer long before my brother Chris. Since the age of 5, singing in the children’s choir at church and taking chorus every school year since…. it almost felt destined. Whereas I (Chris), was a late bloomer finding my voice at the age of 8 after being giving my first duet with the children’s choir as well. LyR-X was formed in the summer of 2009 after winning a talent show. We decided we wanted to purse our passion fully with the desire to bring old school RnB back… and we’ve been working ever since.

LyR-X, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
LyR-X is a RnB Duo comprised of two blood brothers born and raised in Atlanta, Ga. Our foundation and initial love for music and the industry began with our father. He’s a prominent Gospel Artist and growing up in our household was learning harmonies along with our ABC’s. Boys II Men, Tank, 112, Dru Hill, Case are just some of our favorite artists and after the decision of pursuing our music career, we set out to bring back the sound of RnB that we were use to growing up. At this stage in our career, we’re most proud of how far we’ve gotten and all that we’ve created. We’ve seen so many of our peers come and go… giving up, turning back and some just losing faith. We’re not yet where want to be but we’re most grateful that we’re not where we use to be.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
After releasing our single “Back To You”… there was a brief period time where communication with any of the industry people we’ve connected with was silent. So, in an effort to keep the momentum going we utilized our own resources to bring the visual of “Back To You” to life as well as create the follow-up single “Deep In Love” with a visual.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being LyR-x has been hearing testimonies of how our music has effected others lives. This past fall we were giving the honor of singing our single “Deep In Love” at a wedding after hearing the testimony that our song was love by the Bride & Groom.
