We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lynsey Johnson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lynsey below.
Alright, Lynsey thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
Lulu Balloon Events was born one night at my parents’ kitchen table. I wanted to create beautiful event decor that was accessible to everyone, offering creative backdrops and balloon art for families who might not have the budget for high-priced options. My parents were incredibly supportive, and as we brainstormed names, my dad suggested “Lulu Balloon.” The name felt perfect—it combined my childhood nickname with the playful, personal spirit I wanted for the business. It was a name that reflected both my personality and my vision for the company. To make it unique and clearly convey what we do, I added “Events,” and we all agreed it was the right choice.
What makes this name even more special is the connection to my family. “Lulu” is a term of endearment that holds fond memories for me, and it’s heartwarming to see how it has become a part of my professional identity. Now, when people ask me, “Are you Lulu?” I smile and proudly say, “Yes, that’s me!” It’s a reminder of the love and support from my family that made this journey possible. Their encouragement and involvement have been instrumental in shaping Lulu Balloon Events into what it is today.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My journey into this industry began when I started helping my sister-in-law with my niece’s parties, where I discovered a passion for creating balloon garlands and working with vinyl and customizing backdrops. After three years of honing my skills, I officially launched Lulu Balloon Events in December of last year. Balancing a full-time job during the week while managing my business on the weekends has taught me a lot about time management, and I’m proud to make time for myself and my family as well.
What sets me apart is my genuine love for what I do. I’m driven by the joy of bringing happiness to others and the opportunity to give back to the community. I offer a variety of creative services, including custom balloon arrangements, themed backdrops, and full decor setups for events like birthday parties, baby showers, corporate events, and community gatherings. I work closely with each client to bring their vision to life, tailoring every project to fit their unique needs and preferences. My goal is to make high-quality, beautiful decor accessible to everyone because I believe every family deserves to celebrate their special moments with style.
One of the things I’m most proud of is the impact I’ve made in my first year. Decorating over 70 parties has allowed me to help families create memorable celebrations, and the positive feedback from clients about the quality of my work and the care I bring to each event is the most rewarding part of what I do. The name “Lulu” is close to my heart, and it’s always a joy to share the personal connection and the story behind my brand when people ask if I’m Lulu.
Collaborating with local non-profits and participating in charitable events for organizations like CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is incredibly meaningful to me. Providing decor to support their causes and bring joy to those who need it most is just one way I give back and use my creativity to make a positive impact.
As I celebrate my first anniversary in December, I look forward to continuing to bring joy and fun to every event, big or small. I invite you to reach out and see how we can make your next event truly special, or follow us on social media to see our latest creations and community projects.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My creative journey is driven by a mission to make high-quality, beautiful decor accessible to everyone while ensuring each client has an unforgettable experience. I set specific monthly goals to manage the number of events I handle and to take time off to recharge, which is essential for maintaining both my creativity and my well-being. While setting boundaries and saying “no” can be challenging, I’m learning to balance my workload effectively to provide exceptional service.
A core aspect of my mission is delivering the “one and only Lulu” experience. By creating detailed mockups and working closely with each client, I ensure their vision comes to life in a way that is both personal and unique. Seeing clients’ joy and hearing their positive feedback is incredibly rewarding. For me, one of the highest forms of flattery is when clients return for future events and recommend my services to their friends and family. It’s a testament to the impact my work has had and the connections I’ve built.
Looking ahead, I am excited about expanding my team to enhance our capabilities and continue delivering the creativity and personal touch that defines Lulu Balloon Events. My goal is to make every event special and memorable, reflecting my passion and dedication. As I celebrate my first anniversary and beyond, I remain committed to providing exceptional service and building lasting relationships with my clients, ensuring that they are so thrilled with their experience that they eagerly share it with others.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
One thing that non-creatives might find challenging to understand is the deep emotional investment and the extensive time and effort that goes into every single project. For me, it’s not just about assembling balloons or designing backdrops—it’s about crafting experiences that are meaningful and memorable. Each design represents my vision, passion, and commitment to making someone’s special moment truly unforgettable.
People might also be surprised by how challenging it can be to balance creativity with the practical demands of running a business. It’s not just about having innovative ideas; it’s also about executing them under tight deadlines, managing client expectations, and ensuring every detail is perfect. There’s a lot of behind-the-scenes work that isn’t always visible—like sourcing materials, creating mockups, and sometimes working long hours to make sure everything meets the highest standards.
Additionally, the emotional side of being a creative can be tough. I want every client to love their setup, and I often put a lot of pressure on myself to exceed their expectations. This is why saying no can be so difficult for me—I genuinely care about each event and want everyone to have the best experience. However, I’m learning to set boundaries to maintain my own well-being and creativity.
Despite these challenges, the growth and satisfaction I gain from my work go far beyond just being rewarding—they’re deeply fulfilling. For example, I once faced a major challenge at an outdoor party in a park where the vinyl I was using wouldn’t stick because I found myself underprepared. I ended up in the girls’ bathroom with two other people holding my backdrop, using the hand dryer to try and get the vinyl to adhere. After a lot of effort, I finally managed to get it to stick, and with the balloons in place, everything came together beautifully in the end. This experience reminded me that no matter how unpredictable or tough things get, there’s always a way to make it work. Those moments of improvisation and determination are what make this journey so fulfilling—they push me to think outside the box and prove that with a little creativity, anything is possible.
For anyone outside the creative field, my advice would be to appreciate that there’s much more to the process than what meets the eye. It involves meticulous planning, problem-solving, and an immense amount of passion. The journey is filled with both incredible highs and challenging moments, but the joy and satisfaction I get from seeing my clients’ happiness make it all worth it.
