We were lucky to catch up with Lynne Deutch recently and have shared our conversation below.
Lynne, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Change is the most meaningful and powerful project in my work.
I have focused on abstract painting and photography in the past few years. I do not consider this a period of my life but rather an artistic transformation.
This evolution forged a path to new fulfillment and joy through a different process and aesthetic, creating more freedom in my art.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My life and career are born from the continuous motion of transformation. From moving across the country to traveling worldwide, my life’s arc is one of creativity and exploration. My lifelong passion for art and design has taken many forms, covering different mediums across years of art education and involvement.
I studied at the Parsons School of Design in Fashion Illustration but was always drawn to sketching. In this, I worked toward and received a Bachelor of Science in Studio Art from Skidmore College, where I developed a portfolio of figurative works on canvas.
Portraiture, abstract art, and photography are important defining styles and processes of my work and self-expression in my collection.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My work is a visual timeline of important moments, personal growth, societal changes, and life experiences documented through art and photography.
I use art to tell stories and interpret the world through colors and shapes. I reflect back and forth on my personal growth and life experiences, which I aspire to capture and celebrate in my art. Often, I look at technique and process as two ways to evolve how and what I create.
Much of my life is documented through my camera lens. My family and global travel are the most important subjects in my work, a crucial part of my legacy, and how I endeavor to inspire others with good acts and a better understanding of our world.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Self-expression and connecting with others are the most rewarding parts of my work. I often capture a moment or a period of my life through artwork and photography, hoping to connect with others who are going through or are having similar life experiences.
Artwork and photography are often unique and personal outlets. These mediums allow me to express myself in an introspective and extrospective way.
I endeavor to create work that captures the beauty and fragility of our humanity and world.
