Lynn, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I am the owner of Cincinnati Party Balloons. I am also a teacher. During Covid-19 pandemic, I was going through a difficult time like everyone else. I was on Facebook looking at some of my friends and family Facebook posts. My sister in-law posted a picture of a balloon bouquet. I was intrigued with the creativity and went to search more about who did the balloon bouquet. After looking at her business page and seeing the work she did, I thought to myself I could do that. There weren’t any balloon businesses making these beautiful balloon decorations in the Cincinnati area. I knew I could make the balloon designs, but I wasn’t sure about how to promote my business. With the extra time I had from not working, I created a website. I also started making some balloon bouquets for friends. Before I knew it, I was busy every week with balloon jobs.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
When was in high school, my art teacher said I should go to art school. Back then there wasn’t much opportunity with an Art degree. I felt I needed stability so I went into education and became a teacher. I think I am naturally a creative person who like to make things and love to make things pretty. Now I can express my creativity by making balloon decorations.
I am most proud that I am a single mom and I am able to support our family. I have two jobs that I love. Both jobs bring me joy and allows me to give back to others…. Working with students and making balloons for special celebrations.
I love making balloon decorations for clients and being part of their special day. I always do my best because I want everyone to be impressed by the work that I demonstrated. And of course I want a good reputation for doing an amazing balloon job.
We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
My business partner is my daughter. She is 15 years old. She helps with blowing up and tying the balloons. Tying the balloons are not easy and not everyone has the hands to tie them. She said she finds it relaxing. She’s been a trooper through growing our business. Often times, she will tell me to stop adding balloons and I tell her it’s important to make it your best and always do extra for our clients. Doing extra will help our business grow and clients will appreciate the creativity and time we put into our work. We want a positive reputation and we want referrals. Working together has brought us closer and she sees the value of hard work.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clients is referrals. Many of my clients are friends and family of previous jobs I have done. They tell me they have a lot of parties and events and will use me again.
I also have a web page that attract a lot of business. I ask them to visit my Instagram account to see my most recent work.
