We were lucky to catch up with Lynn Lambrecht recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Lynn thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
The Living Planner® incorporates planning while living, which is central to my work. My work as a volunteer emergency team responder fuels my passion to educate in lay person terms what’s at risk and what’s to gain through contingency planning for business and home.
My business name simply describes what I do!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
The Living Planner® is an evolution of my life – personally and professionally. During my global aviation career, I was also a volunteer emergency team responder. I worked two crashes in my 20’s and later, 9/11. These experiences taught me valuable lessons about living and about being always prepared.
Preventative strategies are my passion. Tough topics are tough. How do you prepare and cope with a sudden diagnosis, an accident or loss of life? OR cope with business impact due to natural disaster, regulatory, technological, and/or human factors?
“What do I do NOW?” We seem programmed to react to life. What if we considered a taking proactive stance? Each transition is a time when we stretch beyond what we’ve known to take a new step on life’s journey. After years in the reactive space, I’m a believer in up-front action to allow us to feel what we deserve to feel in times of loss.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
While working in Asia as an expat, my mom and dad in the US experienced health challenges. I flew back for mom’s 2nd triple bypass surgery and noticed my dad was “off”. After mom sailed through surgery, dad and I talked about him. He didn’t want mom to know about his changes. We agreed if it was memory impairment, I would return to the US to help them.
Four weeks back in Asia, I learned that dad’s doctor diagnosed Alzheimer’s as dad’s condition. I returned to the US to work and commute 177 miles each way to mom/dad’s on weekends to help. After three years of commuting, 9/11 occurred. I worked this crash and one year later my division was closed and I was unemployed and one year after that dad died.
Yes, helping my parents was a choice that came with consequences. And, yes, I would do it all again for that time with my parents. Each step on the journey of life, complete with ups and downs has brought me to the here and now. I’m appreciative for the lessons.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Resilience and pivots are similar! I think I’ve built resilience and pivot ability my entire adult life :)
Doing what I do and talking about what I talk about is something people would prefer to avoid. Covid brought home the finality of loss and/or disability along with closing of offices. Double whammy for me. My topic was too close to home.
It was an extraordinary time for me to invest in an online platform and transform my written work into online courses. It was also a time for me to touch base with young adults to craft some content for them. During some self-reflection, it also struck me that we love our pets and I began researching how our 50 states helped protect them when something happens to their owners.
I provided lots of learning sessions for groups nationally and have grown my network greatly. High touch with a sprinkle of tech is a godsend! I love what I do and continuously explore ways to make it easier for people to be inspired to plan for the what if’s before needed.
