We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lynn JC. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lynn below.
Lynn, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Innovation comes in all shapes, sizes and across all industries, so we’d love to hear about something you’ve done that you feel was particularly innovative.
One of the most innovative thing I have done in my career is networking with other local lash artists and thoroughly learning how to manage my finances as a business owner. Theres an immediate grounds of understanding with those who are in the same industry as you. You learn from each others mistakes and continue brainstorming ideas on how to elevate your businesses. Being open to learning from those in my industry has made me feel less alone while trying to understand the intricacy of running a business that is profitable. Those who I have connected with are around my age and had a business before I did, thus their knowledge and their trials and error has been really helpful while I’ve been learning how to run my business. Lash artists have their own unique look and we see the beauty in all of our work as artistes. Moreover, learning the ins and outs of finances and calculating profits to continue running a business is vital in the prosperity of it as whole. Financial literacy is something many have not grasped the concept of but it can make our break the success of your business. Keeping your spending at a fairly low percentage to reinvest back into your business is similar to watering a plant you want to watch grow. Money is innovation, and learning its influence and how to apply it to your business is a productive manner is essential. My necessity to understand money has helped me maintain a profitable business.
Lynn, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My brand is Lynn’s Lash Lab and I am 23 year old lash artist/licensed esthetician. I specialize in individual lash extensions and I also retail lash products for other lash artists. I have been preforming lash extension services for the past 2 years. Lynn’s Lash Lab is located in Miami, Florida. I got into the beauty industry because it was something I always enjoyed because of the industry’s creative branches. Seeing others being paid simply off of their work, their techniques, their personable style, and their art was always phenomenal to see. And I felt that it fit perfectly with me because what better way to express yourself than your art. I also retail lash products for other lash artists. I sell lash trays, lash adhesives, lash tweezers, lash removers, and lash shampoos. These products are retailed via my Etsy shop (Lynnslashlabshop) for other lash artists to invest into quality and affordable products for their business.
What sets me apart from others is my versatility and how unique my lash sets are presented. My art in lashing is my creative outlet and its protrayed uniquely to myself. The thing I’m most proud of is building a profitable business amid the first global pandemic back in 2020. It gave me the motivation to conjure up a game plan while the whole world slow downed. As many businesses unfortunately shut down during the pandemic, mine was growing which I am extremely grateful for. The things I want my potential clients/followers to know about my brand is that its constantly growing in all aspects and I’m testing all avenues to keep innovating my business bigger and better. New services and products will be available by September 2022!
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients for my business has been word of mouth. I am so grateful for the clients who have supported my business during my journey. They have been the ones who have also nourished part of my business by always recommending me to others.
Can you talk to us about manufacturing? How’d you figure it all out? We’d love to hear the story.
The lash products that I retail are manufactured by a company overseas. I started my lash product line earlier this year (February 2022), however I had been testing out the products since June 2021 for quality. I wanted to form a stream of income that wasn’t serviced based and was e-commerce instead. I wanted to sell products that I knew lash techs like me would find not only aesthetically pleasing based on the packaging but also the quality of the products speak for themselves. An artistes tools are just as important as their invasion art. The fruition of such art must be done with the best tools and my lash products are those tools. The quality and precision at which they work makes such a tedious skillset more manageable and efficiently executed. It took me time and a lot of money to find a vendor that held up the standards that I wanted my brand’s products to depict. Trial and error is the only way to find a manufacturer that fits your brand and preference. The lessons I’ve learned along the way when it comes to manufacturing a product is take your time when rolling out your products to make sure the quality control is perfect. You want your products to speak for itself and portray your brand in the best way possible. Divine timing is necessary in this process. It might not be good the first time so go back to the drawing board to make it better. Also have clear communication with your manufacturer in what you want and expect out of them as your product producer. Don’t rush the process and enjoy it while you’re perfecting it.
