We were lucky to catch up with Lynn Haley recently and have shared our conversation below.
Lynn, appreciate you joining us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I think to be successful it’s more than just financial success. To me, being successful means the connections with my customers. This year I had several previous customers come by one of my craft shows. They shared pictures of their grown children and shared that they have past my outfits down to a relative to play with. They told me how much their daughters enjoyed playing with them and how their nieces were enjoying them. This is what success means to me, having those connections.

Lynn, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Lynn Haley. I design and sew doll outfits for 14/15” and 18” dolls. I also make tents and sleeping bag sets for the dolls. I started making doll clothes for my daughter’s dolls. I started making them as gifts for their friends dolls. I was encouraged by friends to make them and sell them at craft shows. It’s been over 20 years. I see year round to have enough stock for 7-8 shows every fall. My outfits are also in 2 boutique stores. I always have outfits in stock but I also take customer requests. I am most proud of the fact that I create quality outfits at a reasonable price. I love seeing the look on a little girl’s face when her parent tells her she can get an outfit or two. I’m always looking for deals on quality products so I can bring the very best to my customers at a great value.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source for new customers has been my existing customer base. They are amazing at sharing my Facebook posts. They give their friends my contact information. In my opinion, the best advertising is from my past and present customers. They come through for me constantly.

How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I try to post a on Facebook a couple of times a month at least. In the fall before my first craft show I mail out a letter listing all my shows. It also includes a small discount. I usually mail out 300-400 letters. I try to make a personal connection with each customer I have.
