We recently connected with Lynn Bomberowitz and have shared our conversation below.
Lynn, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Success, in my opinion, requires a blend of passion, resilience, and a willingness to embrace opportunities, even when they present themselves in unexpected ways.
Take my own journey, for instance. At 36 years old, I found myself at a pivotal crossroads in my career. Despite nearly two decades of climbing the corporate ladder in marketing—from intern to marketing director — I felt a lingering sense of unfulfillment. And when a move to North Carolina from Massachusetts resulted in renovating my first and second floors alongside contractors and mentors, I realized that not only did I have a true passion for design, but I believed I just might have what it takes to become an interior designer.
Shortly after completing the renovations on my home, I was struck by the sudden loss of one of my best friends. It was a sobering reminder of life’s brevity and the importance of seizing the moment. Embracing the “YOLO” mantra, I decided to take the leap and turn my passion for interior design into a full-fledged business. Thus, The Carolina Home was born—a tribute to my friend and a testament to the belief that life is too short not to pursue our dreams wholeheartedly.
For me, success wasn’t just about following my passion; it was about embracing change and stepping out of my comfort zone. Leaving behind the security of my coworkers, friends, a steady paycheck, and routine felt daunting (yes, I’m sweating a little just writing it), but I also was reminded that pursuing an opportunity that truly lit a fire in my soul felt right.
In my case, success is not solely determined by traditional markers of achievement, such as academic credentials or industry accolades. Instead, it is defined by the impact I can make in the lives of others. For me, interior design allows me to care for people, to create spaces that evoke a sense of wholeness, peace, and comfort for them and their loved ones. There’s truly no greater satisfaction than knowing I’ve helped transform a house into a home.
Sure, success comes with its share of challenges. While I have many supporters, I also face doubters in the design world who question my background and expertise. And, if I’m honest, I still battle that lingering feeling of “imposter syndrome” from time to time. But the joy and fulfillment I’ve found in this new path have made every hurdle worth it (and I intend to remind myself of that as I undoubtedly encounter more in the future).
Ultimately, success is a journey—one that requires a combination of passion, perseverance, and a willingness to adapt and evolve. It’s about staying true to your vision while remaining open to new possibilities and opportunities. And above all, it’s about finding fulfillment in the pursuit of your passions and making a meaningful impact along the way.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi, I’m Lynn, owner of The Carolina Home, a full-service Interior Design firm serving residential clients. I’m a creative-at-heart and slightly obsessed with all things interior design. Most importantly though, I’m a wife and a mama to two littles and one sweet pup.
At The Carolina Home, we believe your home should be authentically yours. We’ll never send you a design that only reflects current trends or popular styles, instead we’ll spend time upfront getting to know you, chatting with you, learning who you and your family are and how you move through your day to day. We want to know what you spend your time doing, what your favorite spot on the couch is, how you entertain, what cocktail you choose to unwind with at the end of the day – and seamlessly weave that into your mood boards, selections and final installation.
Through the design process, we aim to make you feel comfortable and heard. Our processes are streamlined, organized and thorough so that rather than worry about the timeline, you can have fun throughout the journey. In the end, some of our clients have said we know them better than they know themselves. Some clients even turn into great friends. This is the goal!
While I lean towards a light, clean, traditional/coastal aesthetic, I love a design challenge (and making new friends along the way). I will take your home project on as if it were my own and ensure that you feel taken care of throughout the journey.
I take on new construction, renovations and remodels, full-home furnishing and virtual design projects.
A few things to know about me: I’m ALWAYS playing music, the beach is my happy place, I love a delicious wine (in a fancy glass, of course), building charcuterie boards is basically my form of meditation and even though I’m the proud owner of The Carolina Home, New England will always have a piece of my heart.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I believe that networking and relationship building is key in everything one does in their career. Upon starting my business, I made a point to meet with realtors, contractors and friends of friends who were in need of design help. I tried to show up on message boards, reach out to other designers to ask for wisdom and advice, etc. Meeting and maintaining a relationship with these amazing people has helped me to get to where I am.
Once I started growing, client referrals were huge as well. Setting exceptions for my clients up front and following a streamlined, organized and time-efficient process is key. Seeing the work through to the best of my ability and creating a space that I would be proud to live in is my goal. I strongly believe that going the extra mile to make people – be it industry connections or clients – feel special will build up and strengthen even the newest and smallest of businesses.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an interior designer is the ability to make a meaningful impact on people’s lives through my work. Work that I love! Whether it’s designing a space that brings joy and comfort to a family, or connecting with my clients on a personal level that assures them that their home is in good hands – knowing that I’ve touched someone’s heart or made a positive difference in their day (or lives) is incredibly fulfilling. Being able to express myself authentically and share my creativity with the world is a gift. And the connections I form with others through my work make it all the more rewarding.
