We recently connected with Lynette Maya and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Lynette thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
With mental health crisis on the rise our youth are increasingly at risk of dangerous behaviors, anxiety and depression with roughly one in every five teenagers reporting symptoms of depression. As youth face life challenges, such as, divorce, peer pressure, low self-esteem, social anxiety, social media influences and academic or behavioral obstacles, continued research shows these numbers continue to increase annually. Many of these stressors overwhelm the nervous systm and lead to physical ailments such as digestive issues, chronic pain, insomnia and more.
But what happens to the person who learns how to partner with their nervous system by gaining the tools they need to support capacity growth? Is it possible to turn stress into a resource? And if individual systems can shift from overwhlem to empowerment, what about entire communites? These are the big questions that catalyed my business journey.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
As a Latin woman who not only grew up in a poverty stricken area exposed to crime and lack of resources, but also became a teen mother under the same circumstances – I know how stressful parenting can be.
I understand what it’s like to feel worried for the future of yourself and your child.
I understand what it’s like to be overwhelmed, to feel alone, and deeply needing support.
Wisdom Blooming was founded to fill a gap in support for the Tucson community with the understanding of reaching back a helping hand to those who are trying to rise out of similar situations.
As the daughter of a worker’s rights activist, dedication to positive change within my community is deeply rooted in my family’s way of life. As a teen mother and a member of an underserved community, I had to face some difficult choices – I was either going to repeat the same cycles of overwhelm, internal disorganization, and stress that would set my child up for continuing cycles of suffering or I would have to seek out empowering opportunities to make positive changes in my life.
I chose to seek solutions. With every yoga class, meditation workshop, and coaching series I expanded the break in my overwhelm into a spaciousness that grew my capacites and thresholds for managing stress. The practices that changed the course of my life and those of my two children, are the same practices that I now teach my community members. Wisdom Blooming exists as a liberation movement to rise together by giving people the skills that empower confidence, resilience, compassion and mental wellness.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Reflecting on how the Nervous System Regulation courses for youth came to be. I was a young mother struggling with high levels of stress. After more than a decade as a practitioner in the healing arts of massage therapy and yoga, I was acutely aware of connections between stress, chronic symptoms in the body and disease. Although I was helping people that weren’t getting better using typical interventions, their results were not long lasting and they were highly dependent upon me or others.
As my own stress remained high my children grew to observe and absorb more each day. My priority became finding ways to empower them with sustainable self care tools. This opened a door to understanding more about child development, the complex science of stress management and the brain body communication network. So I shifted my search for healing .
After a few more years of working for schools, facilitating parenting workshops, and completing conscious parenting certification I began to study somatic practices. This is where I found the nervous system was the key I had been looking for. The most powerful takeaway for me was that I could partner with my nervous system’s communication and catalyze healing in my body.
Let’s be honest, no one feels prepared to teach a skill they haven’t mastered and in addition to that there was no children’s curriculum for me to begin with. I needed to create something that could be simultaneously learned by me and my children. Peace Protectors and Nervous System Ninjas were born from studies of nervous system regulation, healing modalities, and years of work with children preschool through eighth grade.
The programs launched and sold out in the first round. Within six months both series had graduated more than fifty students. Using play, songs, movement and explorations of the five senses Wisdom Blooming is guiding children on a personal discovery to the entry point of their nervous system partnership.
What I hear consistently from my community now, is that learning about the nervous system is empowering them with tools to use in times of stress and more importantly, growing their threshold capacities. More often parents find themselves engaging in coregulation and avoiding spirals of shame that would otherwise compact cycles of stress. Breaking cycles of stress with sustainable healing practices is attainable. Sometimes we just need a little step by step guide to assist us in the journey and that is why Wisdom Blooming is here.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Trust is key. Trust in our professional relationship and trust in quality programming. Parents often show up at my office in the same state I was in before I learned about my nervous system. They are desperate, highly vulnerable and unsure of how to begin creating positive shifts in their parent child relationship. They are quick to blame themselves and often carry a heavy load of guilt. Being a person they can count on, a partner in their efforts and a reliable place of guidance carries my business from individuals to communities.
Some people have found their way to me via my website, some have seen an ad or met me at an in person venue but most of my clients find their way to me by referral. The programs that Wisdom Blooming has created and implemented are providing trust worthy relief, meeting family needs and reducing stress individually and systemically. Maintaining quality connection and care, regularly reviewing programs, and integrating feedback to improve services are all ways that secure trust between my business and those it serves.
Each time a client leaves my office feeling equipped with resources to meet their needs or a child leaves a workshop feeling empowered to help themselves, they not only feel trust in our professional relationship but they begin building trust in their own abilities. Empowered people take pride in their personal success and in the telling of those stories my business is shared.
