We were lucky to catch up with Lyndall Medearis recently and have shared our conversation below.
Lyndall, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with a fun one – what’s something you believe that most people in your industry (or in general) disagree with?
Most people believe that someone who is beginning their life insurance career should not reach out to their friends and family. They believe that they should buy leads and cold call the leads using a sales script. This method is very costly and without immediate success the new agent is very likely to quit in year one.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a Risk Management & Insurance major from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. I went to work for an insurance company right after graduation and started building my financial services business in 1993. My goal was to help my clients create and preserve their wealth. I have spent more than three decades helping individuals, businesses and nonprofits achieve their financial goals.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I came to Houston for the Super Bowl in 2004 and hosted a brunch for our professional athletes family and friends at a local restaurant. One of the members of the event planning team and I struck up a friendship that turned into a work relationship later in 2004. In 2008, I left the company and she remained until 2012. We remained friends and I went through a divorce in 2013. Our relationship blossomed into love and we married in 2016.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
We get new clients from people who are familiar with who we are and what we do, which is selling life insurance. We maintain a presence on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn. We also get referrals from our existing clients, friends and family members.
