We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lymaris Bernal a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Lymaris thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Any thoughts around creating more inclusive workplaces?
We have created a work space for stylists where they can truly be their own bosses without the struggle of doing it alone. A community of independent professionals in the industry that actually do support each other in a zero drama environment!

Lymaris, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Lymaris Bernal. Owner of Vera Hair Co.
Years ago I got into the beauty industry with the goal in mind to not only help clients embrace their beauty but to also have freedom on my schedule. After working in a traditional salon set up for a while I was ready to venture on my own and start creating the flexibility that I always dreamed of. Salon Suites were becoming really popular so that’s exactly what I did. I rented my own suite. It was a huge step on my career. I loved it for a while, but after 5 years of being on my own I realized how lonely I was. I was missing the fun and excitement of coming to work with other stylists, to exchange techniques and product knowledge. The opportunity to appreciate and contemplate others work for my own motivation and vice versa. But I wasn’t going to give my freedom up for all of that.
I decided to open my own salon and create the perfect work space! A space where stylists and other professionals in the beauty industry can work together, exchange knowledge, motivate each other in a zero tolerance for drama work environment. A salon where they can truly have freedom on their schedules, their styles and their businesses while still enjoying all of the benefits of a “traditional concept hair salon”, like having a receptionist in place, complementary drinks and snacks for their customers, backbar products and laundry services included. It’s simplifying their lives so that they can relax and provide their best services to their customers in a salon that their customers will also love to come!
I truly believe that I’m here in this world to help other people in the industry, to help them reach goals and get better every day. seeing other women/men grow in the industry fulfills my heart.

Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
I believe that a very important part of keeping loyalty with our stylists is being “human”. Just being real about the process, sharing more and being willing to open up about the things that other salon owners wouldn’t to help them grow on their own path. Also, understanding that our salon will only be a small part on some of their journeys, they will eventually grow into bigger things and that’s totally ok! To always leave the door open for their new referrals or if they ever need to comeback for any circumstances.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
One advice I can give when it comes to managing a team and maintaining a high morale would be to become also one of them. To lead by example and to do it only because you want to help them grow and not for your own benefit. To always be respectful, the same way you would expect them to respect yourself.
