We were lucky to catch up with Lydia Magnoli recently and have shared our conversation below.
Lydia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
Sometimes all you need is to silence the outside noise and follow the still small voice of your heart.
It was 2016 and I had spent the last 5 years falling in love with the fitness industry but it was still my side gig and my full time “real job” was working as a School Psychologist in an elementary school.
The inner calling to dive deeper into the fitness industry became so loud that it prompted me to take action.
Action that MANY people discouraged me from taking.
Looking back, they were projecting their own fears onto me. They had played it safe and followed an archaic blueprint of “success” – but I did not subscribe to that newsletter of “normal” living. I was ok with not following societal “expectations”. I needed to follow my heart. I knew I had a passionate fire burning inside me to impact more lives in a deeper way.
So I resigned. I walked away from a stable paycheck and a title that gave me some “credibility” in society. I left a full time tenured School Psychologist to “teach fitness classes”. And THAT is where the real journey begins. That is the moment where I said “NO” to an inauthentic existence and “YES” to building a beautiful life that resonated with my highest self.
I feel most in alignment with my true self when I am teaching and helping others develop healthier habits. The fitness industry has been my vehicle for sharing this message for over a decade now.
I faced MANY challenges in the early years but also learned many valuable lessons.
Here are my top 3:
1. Never take advice from people who are not getting the results you are seeking.
2. If it calls to you – it is FOR you. Be brave enough to answer the call.
3. Our mess can become our message. All the struggles I faced in my adolescence and early 20s has made me uniquely qualified to help others with compassion and deep understanding.
