We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lydia Jean. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lydia below.
Lydia, appreciate you joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea for Lydia Jean & Co started when I was planning my wedding earlier in 2023. I had decided on a small, intimate celebration with our closest family and friends. It turned out to be exactly what we wanted, albeit not the stereotypical wedding. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire planning process and curating fun ideas to make our wedding unique to us.
I started @itgirlagency nearly six years ago, and during my wedding planning, I noticed there weren’t many options for influencers who wanted to host curated events. There was a gap between brands and influencers when it came to organizing gatherings and a lack of influencer-hosted events. During this time, I also heard from influencers who wanted to meet their followers, connect with brands, and engage with other creators in person. This is exactly what got me excited about the idea of creating entertaining and curated events where all of these things could coincide.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
With my background and knowledge of the influencer industry, I knew I had a unique perspective on planning events that align with influencers. Additionally, having extensive contacts with some of social media’s favorite brands + vendors gives us a one-up compared to many alternative event planning companies. Lydia Jean & Co is perfectly planned with influencers and their audience in mind.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
I started my first company, It Girl Agency, in 2018 while working two full-time jobs. Over the course of 1.5 years, my clientele and business had tremendous growth and I was able to leave one of my full-time jobs. Shortly after, I decided to make the plunge into being a full-time business owner, about 2 years after starting my company. The first 2 years were just me, myself, and I – however, I started (and continue) to notice significant growth and change once I started hiring subcontractors + employees to assist in the business.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Social Media + Referrals. Since we are a boutique talent agency company, we only take on a select number of influencers every year to ensure steady growth. However, we consistently receive inquires from social media and current clients!
