We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lydia Bagarozza. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lydia below.
Lydia , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with talking about how you serve the underserved, because in our view this is one of the most important things the small business community does for society – by serving those who the giant corporations ignore, small business helps create a more inclusive and just world for all of us.
I’ve been a publicist for over 10 years now and what I’ve found is that there’s a major barrier to entry for personal brands and startups to get featured in the media. Especially in the earlier stages of their businesses when their revenue is still building. At Visibility on Purpose, we teach business owners and founders how to pitch themselves to the media so that they can have the same privilege of getting featured on top publications & podcasts as the world’s biggest brands.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Before opening my own agency and media training program, I started my career in the music industry spearheading PR campaigns for GRAMMY award-winning artists. I loved sharing stories with the media and seeing my thoughts and ideas go live on a page. I also loved doing a brand justice and giving them the recognition that they deserved through media exposure. Years later, I moved into product PR, and am now mostly serving personal brands.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson that I had to unlearn was, “more work equals more results, money, and achievements.” When in fact, it’s not about doing “more work” at all, it’s about building relationships and working strategically; aka smarter not harder.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
Bridget Sicsko and I actually met in a Facebook group centered around mindset and spirituality. I think that a lot of good partnerships start with values, so we were lucky to have gotten that out of the way before going into business with one another.
