We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lux Pazols a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Lux, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
My creative journey began very early on in my life but my path as a designer started when I answered a job post to be a Go-go dancer at EDC 2011. I was only 20 years old and I had never danced in front of a large crowd in my LIFE! I was terrified that I had applied to do this huge opportunity with no experience but like any delusional creative, I thought to myself how are hard could it be? Well within an hour I was selected to join a dance troupe and i was en route to Vegas! We were required to do our own styling for costumes. I had 2 days to prepare and I began hand sewing and gluing what could be best described as a galactic pirate outfits, As for my debut on stage, it came very natural to me. Which was great because the head person of the dance troupe took notice of my costumes. She offered me to come assist her in her studio for future jobs. She was a well known costume designer in the festival community at the time and I was honored. The only thing, I had very limited sewing skills. Again I lied and watch endless videos of youtube to prepare me for my new job. This opportunity led me to eventually design and work the costuming department at Insomiac events. After 4 years of doing everything from stage design, sewing large scale installations and creating characters for several festivals I began to notice that anytime I went out I was asked about what I was wearing. This sparked something in me and I knew I was meant for more.I was feeling tired and exhausted in my festival work that I quit at EDC 2015. Life has a way of completing cycles and this was a full circle moment for me. I had finished three major projects that I knew my time was up. I yearned for more creative challenges and to move up in life. Shortly after quitting, my best friend Jas called me that he had hired a sewing team in his garage, So I put my place on air bnb and slept on his couch for 3 months and invested all my savings to start Lux Muse. By march 2016 I attended my first festival to sell my goods. I left that first vending experience with $20 in cash and $8 in my bank account. I was a little defeated and felt that all my hard work was for nothing. But I didn’t give up. I vended my second festival three months later. I earned 9 thousand dollars in two days! I knew that this was my calling and shortly after that I opened my online store and I’ve been the CEO and designer of Lux Muse ever since.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My small business provides high end festival wears that are made in small batches or ready to ship one of kind designs. Each piece is made with individual silhouettes, cuts and details that make each piece different from one another. I really do feel that my customers appreciate wearing eclectic outfits that will not be seen any one else.
I’m the most proud of building a fun and free life through my art. I’m so grateful to be able to share my art while providing abundance for myself and others. I don’t ever want to take advantage of the opportunities I’m given. Everyday I wake up with a purpose. And even for the women who have never purchased from me or never will, i hope that my story inspires them to do what truly lights them up. Happiness is a choice everyday and I honestly feel that doing what you love makes life a little easier.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson that I’ve had to unlearn is to work less. This was never how I saw productivity. I was the person working 10-14 hours and I was always behind. Now my new life motto has become “The more fun I have, the more money I make” In the past I was of the mentality of work harder and you will achieve more. Hustle culture has killed the artist. We are not meant to do it all. It’s important to delegate jobs and tasks to people on your team or to out source. The more time I have to enjoy my day to day, I’m able to create products I’m very proud of. And my customers feel that.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Social media is the best avenue for any business to create their brand story. I really think the best formula that has worked for me is showing my pieces in a straight forward way. A simple photo showcasing your art is all you need. The less busy it is, the more hits I receive. I also think sprinkling some editorial photos with your product shots is also important. This way you are creating a vibe and positive emotions that translates to your audience. Find your style that can be recognizable and unique. The point is for someone to see your post’s and right away know it’s you.
