We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Luvigj Sati. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Luvigj below.
Luvigj, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Before we talk about all of your success, let’s start with a story of failure. Can you open up about a time when you’ve failed?
This story took place in December 2023 about 2-3 weeks from Christmas. I had been working in a corporate office as an assistant property manager. I hustled for 8 months straight but unfortunately I was laid off from the job. I felt very cheated and upset after all the work I had done for them. Needless to say I felt like a failure and for 4 months could not find any job in my field or in any field for that matter.
I decided to take matters into my own hands and I started throwing pop-up house music events around my area and eventually in NYC and Brooklyn.
From this layoff, I realized what my true passion has been and always will be, making and playing music for people all over the world. I started my own house music collective and have not looked back since. Though I have played many empty rooms and dead parties, I was pushed to finally take the leap I needed to pursue my passions and dreams.
I have learned that everything happens for a reason, especially after this crazy year of 2024.
Luvigj, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a life long lover of the EDM culture and all forms of house music! I was only 13 years old when i started to learn how to Dj. I taught myself over the course of high school and played at a radio station for 3 years in college. Ive spent years perfecting my craft!
I knew from the start I wanted to make some noise in the house music world and have everyone know me, WeeGee! So after years of learning, raving, studying, and playing music; it was time for me to show people who I am and the music I love to play.
I started a house music collective called No Vacancy with my two other very talented partners. We throw parties all over NYC! We bring a different kind of sound that people usually wont hear in around here. It’s a perfect place to introduce ourselves in the house scene. We hire all kinds of DJs and acts for our shows (some with very notable status).
What I am most proud of in this whole adventure of mine is seeing a dream I had 10+ years ago finally come to life. Seeing all my good DJ friends rock the stage brings me as much joy as playing myself. I love supporting the local scene because your favorite was a local once too!
I have dedicated my life to house music when I was barely a teenager and I vowed to never stop! No matter what, I stay loyal to the true essence of the scene, the music, and the culture. Real DJs, real talents and extremely good tunes!
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
After being let go of my corporate job, I was desperate to find work. At that moment in time, I made the decision to never look back at working 9-5. After spending 6 years in college and trying to keep my head above water, I realized that no matter what, I knew what my calling was. So I took a massive pay cut and work at a car dealership during the day managing the car lot but it allows me to focus on the true goal.
Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
Any money I had left over after Christmas gifts was all I had to start my business; about 4 grand left. I spent the bulk of it on a DJ board as the one I used before was broken back in 2021. I decided to throw a massive party at a random local dive bar near me as a ‘Hail Mary’ and it was a huge success! From there, every cent I made/make, whether from the parties or regular work; it is all funneled back into the business (aside from bills of course). In this current economy, it is tough to make enough income to support any business but from experience, the pressure makes diamonds.
