We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Luv Jazury a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Luv, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?

Success starts in the mind. You have to see yourself successful before you actually reach success. You must have mental clarity in regards to what you want out of life then create a strategy to get there. Success requires you to stay mentally focused, be disciplined and have tenacity. Upon those things you must daily be around like minded individuals. People who share the same goals and dreams as you. I recommend joining a mentorship or mastermind group. Therefore you will hold yourself a lot more accountable to be successful. Also seeing the accomplishments of your peers will be even more motivating and light a fire under you.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

My name is Luv and I am from St. Louis, Missouri. Every since I was a child I was obsessed and totally in love with beauty and fashion. I started sketching high heel shoes when I was in high school and it was my dream then to move to California and go to school for fashion design and merchandising. But I also was obsessed with hair and makeup. Therefore I just was like you know what I am going to be a beauty mogul. I`m going to do all things beauty and add my creative ideas to the industry.

Years went pass and life happened. I ended up dropping out of high school but I held on to my dreams as I still had the burning desire to be involved in the beauty industry. I love getting my nails done and a lot of times when I went to the nail salon they just did not have colors that I felt were vibrant or exclusive enough for me. One time I went and it took me about 45 minutes just to try to find a color that I wanted. That is when it came to me that “now is the time that I start my nail product line.” A blast of excitement all of a sudden went through my body. I still remember that moment this very day.

I started to save my money then began to do my research on the industry and contact nail suppliers. I decided that our first collection will be gel polish that included colors such as neon, cat eye and temperature change. I made sure that the colors were 9 Free meaning that no toxic chemicals were in the formula such as Toulene, formaldehyde, dibutyl phthalate and others. Also I decided that my brand will be named after me, Luv Jazury. I am a very fun, vibrant and bold person and that is what I keep in mind when choosing the nail colors. Our statement is for everyone to “be bold, be vibrant, be beautiful; wear Beautiful Nail Colors.”

I am most proud of the fact that we are adding value to the nail industry by coming out with fun creative and exclusive nail colors. I am happy to say that no harmful chemicals are in the products. Also I`m happy to say that I have a nail product line because a lot of people go into the hair or clothing industry and nails just feels a lot more unique and exclusive. What I want my customers and everyone who is engaged with our brand to know is that they are truly appreciated. I genuinely thank them all. We will continue to add value to the industry by coming out with products that are for both professionals and beginner nail enthusiast.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?

Since becoming an entrepreneur there have been several books that I read to keep me motivated and informed about business. I read a lot of personal development and mindset books as well. I made it a personal principal of mine to always feed my brain. I keep in mind to never stop growing and there is still so much to learn. Life for me is about evolving and I always invest in my intellect.

I have read classic books such as Think and Grow Rich and Rich Dad Poor Dad just to name a few. A book that I just recently finished is The 12 Week Year. I like audio books as well. I find that listening to audio books works best for me as I am always busy. Its even more flexible when taking notes. The rapper Curtis 50 Cent Jackson has an audio book titled “Hustle Harder Hustle Smarter” that I really enjoyed. The book gives a lot of good strategies in regards to business and it reminds me to always have an incredible work ethic and hustles both hard and smart.

Okay – so how did you figure out the manufacturing part? Did you have prior experience?

I do not manufacture my own products. I researched and found a handful of suppliers that had what I needed for my business. Before I started the business I tested products from different manufactures to see which one would be the best fit for me. When dealing with manufacturers I find it best to make sure that not only is the product good but that they are a legitimate company that has top of the line customer service as well. I was not sure on how to properly mix chemicals for my nail products that`s why finding a manufacturer works best for me. I always tell people if you can make the product yourself in the beginning then do so. But eventually as the company grows then you will need a manufactures to make the product for you.
